[10:35] <YohanH> Hello there, looking for infos about the very good habhub predict tool. Is there any way to download output data (csv or kml) directly with an argument filled url instead of having to use the web interface? Would something like habhub/lat=45&lon=5&alt=500&day=20220801&hour=12&ascent=5&descent=5[...]&output=csv be already possible? I can't find any
[10:35] <YohanH> info about such a feature, maybe I missed it but that would be super useful to use the predict tool with other tools.
[10:36] <VK5QI> so this doesnt exist on the habhub predictor
[10:36] <VK5QI> *however*
[10:36] <VK5QI> if you head over to predict.sondehub.org and have a look at the CSV and KML links after you run a prediction, you will liely find exactly what you are looking for
[10:37] <VK5QI> e.g. https://api.v2.sondehub.org/tawhiri?profile=standard_profile&launch_datetime=2022-08-01T20%3A06%3A00Z&launch_latitude=52.2135&launch_longitude=0.0964&launch_altitude=0&ascent_rate=5&burst_altitude=30000&descent_rate=5&format=csv
[10:37] <VK5QI> if you remove the format argument, you will end up with a json output which is probably also easy to work with
[10:38] <VK5QI> YohanH: what is your application in particular?
[10:39] <YohanH> Amazing! Looks like I'll be able to do what I'm looking for. Is sondehub doing another kind of prediction compared to habhub?
[10:39] <VK5QI> same model
[10:40] <VK5QI> sondehub is using the tawhiri predictor, which also allows for float predictions
[10:41] <YohanH> VK5QI, well it's for a small part of a big project. The big project is called R2Home, and I'm doing my own trajectory simulation for the descent because I have a kind of special descent, I can share some links if you are curious. I was looking for a way to get the burst coordinates from habhub to input in my descent predictor.
[10:41] <VK5QI> yeah ok, return to home glider thingy i guess
[10:41] <YohanH> (*to input in a matlab simulation)
[10:41] <VK5QI> what country are you doing this in?
[10:42] <YohanH> https://youtu.be/NDLpS5nnJzU
[10:43] <VK5QI> ahh guided parachute, neat
[10:44] <VK5QI> what are you using for telemetry?
[10:44] <VK5QI> i see mention of a RS41
[10:44] <YohanH> To transmit or to display telemetry?
[10:44] <VK5QI> transmit
[10:46] <YohanH> For this particular flight the initial plan was to use the RS41 and its external sensor port to broadcast data from the system, but I ended up using a small LoRa module for easier integration. 3500m altitude was the limit range for the telemetry so I'll have to upgrade (after getting my license) to something more powerful.
[10:46] <VK5QI> huh
[10:46] <PC4L> great video!
[10:46] <VK5QI> 3500m limit range?!
[10:46] <VK5QI> i mean, people around here get far bigger distances than that from their flights
[10:46] <VK5QI> though the data rates might be lower
[10:47] <YohanH> Yeah, with a shitty antenna inside and on ground a high data rate and low transmission power
[10:47] <VK5QI> yeah ok
[10:47] <VK5QI> like, we get 600+km ranges from a RS41 running the 4FSK mode, but thats very low data rate
[10:47] <VK5QI> fine for tracking a balloon mind you, but if you want to monitor lots of stuff its not so suitable
[10:49] <VK5QI> what data are you transmitting, and why the high data rate?
[10:50] <YohanH> Also in theory I don't need additional telemetry other than the position of the radiosonde attached under the system, it's fully autonomous and there is nothing to do no matter what. However it's a great thing to watch in real time what's happening and directly understand if there is a problem. The data I was transmitting here was all the data
[10:50] <YohanH> about the flight, navigation and control state. Everything needed to be able to say in real time okay everything is fine or.. ok no, this particular thing is not working.
[10:50] <VK5QI> maybe its worth having a high-rate and low-rarte downlink then
[10:50] <VK5QI> high rate for that stuff, but a low-rate one which just gives you position updates, and maybe a few important status points
[10:50] <YohanH> Yes
[10:51] <YohanH> I'd also love to be able to get a picture of the wing every 5-10 min or so but I haven't started working on that yet
[10:51] <VK5QI> imagery downlinks have certainly been done here!
[10:51] <YohanH> It would be fantastic to confirm a good deployment of the wing when the thing is 20km up in the sky
[10:52] <YohanH> But I also have a limited power and battery capacity so..
[10:52] <VK5QI> lots of people doing SSDV via lora, i prefer to run at a higher data rate (115kbit/s FSK)
[10:53] <VK5QI> what is running everything?
[10:53] <VK5QI> and cant go to a bigger chute?
[10:54] <VK5QI> like, we do telemetry, imagery, etc all under maybe 500g
[10:54] <VK5QI> well, way under that...
[10:54] <YohanH> A 'custom' flight computer aka a teensy4.1 on a custom connection board. Then the software is all custom but not that hard.
[10:55] <YohanH> We can go for a bigger chute, as long as we stay under 2kg. The current chute is designed for 1.5kg total payload, and the minimal system is about 0.6kg. So we have about 0.9kg of "additional payload" capability.
[10:55] <VK5QI> oh easy then
[10:56] <VK5QI> i mean, our wenet payloads are 150g or so, with batteries, everything
[10:56] <VK5QI> a RS41 PCB is maybe 50g with batteries?
[10:56] <VK5QI> might have issues packing it all in and have useful antennas
[10:56] <YohanH> the payload can be attached as an external box right under the system it's fine
[10:57] <YohanH> same way as the RS41 was on the video
[10:57] <VK5QI> buyt yeah, for low rate positioning as backup, https://github.com/mikaelnousiainen/RS41ng running the Horus Binary mode is exrremely robust
[10:57] <VK5QI> for *fast* imagery, https://github.com/projecthorus/wenet/wiki
[10:58] <YohanH> Thanks for the links, I'll look in details.
[10:58] <VK5QI> like, 1080p imagery every 30 seconds
[10:58] <VK5QI> but it uses like 300 kHz bandwidth or so, you need to find spectrum to run it in (not an issue here in australia)
[10:58] <ly2en> sp6qkm balloons fell on power lines in Lithuania, lol
[10:58] <YohanH> Every 30 seconds: I guess you can set a lower rate as you wish?
[10:59] <ly2en> https://pasteboard.co/kxsfdGnnC8KI.jpg
[10:59] <VK5QI> YohanH: its possible to lower the baud rate... but we haven tbothered
[11:00] <YohanH> We can stay for long long hours in the air with a parafoil..
[11:00] <VK5QI> thats fine
[11:00] <VK5QI> you get lots of pictures lol
[11:00] <YohanH> haha yea
[11:00] <VK5QI> so with 5 element yagi, no issue receiving wenet imagery from ~300km away
[11:01] <ly2en> https://pasteboard.co/qGp0TNz9Ek6I.jpg
[11:01] <VK5QI> ly2en: lulz
[11:02] <YohanH> wait it's using a RFM98W module and you get that much range and clear picture?
[11:02] <VK5QI> YohanH: its running a custom FSK modulation, with FEC
[11:03] <VK5QI> its not using lora at all, just using a lora module to modulate FSK
[11:03] <ly2en> the balloon is already pre-packaged to be sent over polish postage company :)
[11:03] <VK5QI> SDR to rx - you will need gain + preamp to receive
[11:04] <YohanH> I can find that, well, definitely putting this on my list for the next weeks.
[11:05] <VK5QI> but i'd also investigate the low rate stuff so you can get positions from further away than 3.5km :P
[11:05] <VK5QI> just a RS41 PCB reflashed will get you that
[11:06] <YohanH> I have a RS41 PCB right next to me on my desk
[11:06] <YohanH> I will have to dive into it too.. after I make some progress on the path prediction
