[11:05] <vincentsan> hello there! SA6BBSS-Mike, PE2BZ, LeoBodnar, I am happy to report that my LORA-E5 based tracker was successfully launched on Sunday. So far it has flown over all Europe from France to Macedonia and heading to Greece. It is a 6.6g payload. Altitude is around 8500m.
[11:05] <vincentsan> SA6BSS-Mike
[11:05] <LeoBodnar> awesome
[11:06] <SA6BSS-Mike> Im glad to hear that!! :)
[11:07] <vincentsan> Unfortunately, as I am not licensed so I am using LORA on ISM band and I did not connect it to the hab tracker. I not really sure on how it fits with it...
[11:08] <vincentsan> Do you have a good website to recommend to follow high clouds (>6km) ? Ideally with an API ;-)
[11:19] <PE2BZ> vincentsan, very nice ! Do you have frequency and mode settings for your flight ?
[11:24] <vincentsan> Yes, frequency is 868.1Mhz. Emission every 3 minutes with spreading factor = 8 and 10 one time over 5.
[11:24] <vincentsan> Last known position: 41.84252, 22.26775, 8718m
[11:25] <vincentsan> At 11:13:07 UTC
[11:26] <vincentsan> I have always been received by more than 2 or 3 stations but there does not seems to be a lot of stations over Macedonia...
[11:26] <PE2BZ> It´s a nice altitude :-) Can I ask for your code ?
[11:27] <PE2BZ> Recently we got support for HAB payloads in the TinyGS community, if there are no satellites nearby the groundstations they switch to BZ-LORA-5 on 432.662 MHz
[11:29] <vincentsan> Yes, code is very similar to https://github.com/ARMmbed/stm32customtargets (I just added GPS support).
[11:29] <vincentsan> To best way to have it work is to follow this: https://github.com/hallard/LoRa-E5-Breakout
[11:30] <vincentsan> And you must use a version of mbed posterior to https://github.com/ARMmbed/mbed-os/pull/15017 otherwise current consumption is around 90mA for TX...
[11:30] <PE2BZ> I´ll give this a look this thursday, thanks info !
[11:31] <vincentsan> Do you mean that if I was tuned on 432, I would have been received by TinyGS?
[11:31] <PE2BZ> Could have been, yes.
[11:32] <PE2BZ> If you passed the settings to the TinyGS admin.
[11:32] <vincentsan> nice!
[11:32] <PE2BZ> There might be a chance , there are 866/915 operators too, with no active satellites to follow.
[11:33] <PE2BZ> But they can not support encoded (lorawan ) data strings
[11:33] <vincentsan> hum, I could decode them afterwards maybe
[11:33] <vincentsan> Coverage after Greece will be very poor on TTN
[11:34] <vincentsan> A few stations in Turkey and Russia only
[11:34] <vincentsan> But on SF10, I already got received 350km away ;-)
[11:42] <vincentsan> Do you know a good website to follow high clouds ? I have found www.meteoblue.com, en.sat24.com and www.ventusky.com but I am not very sure of the information they are providing...

[13:25] <vincentsan> Thks !
[13:28] <vincentsan> In making the payload work, I have encountered 2 main issues:
[13:29] <vincentsan> 1/ My MAX7Q modules were drawing more than 40mA during aquisition and not reliably responding to POWER OFF software commands. I suspect they were maybe MAX7W modules instead.
[13:30] <vincentsan> I bought them 5 years ago so I cannot really tell where they are coming from...
[13:30] <vincentsan> 2/ I could not get a fix quickly without adding a condo and since I only had a supercap on hand, I used it. From this point, I tried to minimize comsumption when not powered and managed to have the tracker emit every 3 minutes for 2 hours on supercap only (major current drawer was MAX7C in backup mode than pulls 300uA).
[13:31] <vincentsan> When I connected the solar panels and made some tests I realized that the LDO completly leaks to current to the solar panels when not exposed to light and discharges the supercap in a few seconds...
[13:31] <vincentsan> What would be the proper way to avoid this? Add a schottky diode? Or a clever ideal diode with a MOSFET?
[13:31] <vincentsan> For next design, I am thinking about using reg710. Do you know if it will leak to the solar cells when not powered?

[14:10] <Turjakas> dfgg: cool, do you have any docs / blog posts online about your flights?
[14:20] <dfgg> at weekend we've launched payload consisting of crossband transceiver based on sa818/sa828, few rs41 trackers, and what's most importand - main payload consisting of UV meters with few different lenses to check their capabilities on different altitudes

[14:27] <Turjakas> awesome, thanks
[14:32] <dfgg> but yes, most of radioamateur trackers in poland are currently based on rs41 due to their availability and ease of reprogramming, though I'd personally use something else, and lately I've got bunch of sensors and now I'm on way to connect those bricks into one set
[14:53] <Turjakas> right ok -- I've been experimenting previously with Trackuino (APRS only), my custom Raspberry Pi LoRa tracker (custom LoRa protocol) and recently with RS41s by also writing a custom firmware RS41ng -- I was interested in adding support for multiple modes, external I²C sensors and even HF transmissions via a Si5351 chipset... it's all possible with an RS41, which is cool :)
