[05:50] <SA6BSS-Mike> looks interesting https://tinygs.com/

[07:16] <PE2BZ> SA6BSS-Mike, It works nice and easy https://tinygs.com/station/PE2BZnr2@1462246360
[07:17] <daveake> Interesting
[07:18] <daveake> Just ESP32 receivers no Pi option ? Not that it matters aside from I think all my ESP32s are in use
[07:18] <SA6BSS-Mike> cool!! tracking here as well, i insted of y but seems to be the same sat
[07:18] <SA6BSS-Mike> https://www.n2yo.com/satellite/?s=46494
[07:19] <SA6BSS-Mike> :) I have come to realize that for all the projecy popping up Il better get a couple more of them
[07:19] <PE2BZ> Only just noticed the usb psu of nr1 did fail. Now restarting
[07:20] <daveake> They are cheap certainly. They are my favoured non-Pi tracker option
[07:21] <daveake> Much (much much) better than AVR Arduinos unless you want very low power
[07:23] <PE2BZ> I ordered another 2 for the aprs ¨network¨ on 433.7 MHz, but only after programming I noticed 125 kHz LoRa does not sound like 1200 baud afsk. So I reflashed to tinyGS
[07:24] <VK5QI> ugh i dont like tinygs that much... they support a lot of sats which are either non-coordinated, or are just using a stupid amount of bandwidth
[07:25] <VK5QI> LoRa does not belong in the amateur satellite segment, its a huge waste of bandwidth
[07:25] <VK5QI> 125 khz for 600bps effective data rate is ridiculous
[07:25] <VK5QI> plus its a closed modem...
[07:27] <daveake> I was quite surprised to learn that sats are sometimes sent up without the frequency allocation being checked, double checked, triple checked and sent to Vogsphere and back.
[07:28] <VK5QI> theres heaps that havent been coordinated proeprly
[07:28] <VK5QI> which sometimes results in frequency collisions with other sats
[07:28] <daveake> Where's Trump's Space Force to laser them down again?
[07:28] <VK5QI> then there's commercial entities which just use the amateur radio band without any authorization
[07:28] <VK5QI> and get away with it because all the regulatory agencies re toothless
[07:29] <daveake> And to think that we complain when someone launches a hab without a notam :)
[07:29] <VK5QI> but yeah, on amateur radio bands the tech used should be fully open
[07:29] <VK5QI> no proprietary closed modulations
[07:30] <VK5QI> do what you want in the ISM band... (noting there is no ISM band for space)
[07:31] <daveake> Indeed. Amateur has rules, not being amateur, and decodable by anyone, etc
[07:31] <VK5QI> for me the biggest issue is the huge waste of bandwidth
[07:31] <daveake> Yeah there's no need for that
[07:31] <daveake> Limited resource

[11:35] <VK5QI> dbrooke: yeah, interesting bug
[11:36] <VK5QI> surprised both ephemeris and almanac downloads failed :/
[11:36] <dbrooke> maybe a routing problem with my Internet connection
[11:37] <dbrooke> the ephemiris often fails for some reason but usually the almanac succeeds
[11:37] <VK5QI> hrm
[11:38] <VK5QI> tbh you should be tracking with just almanac
[11:38] <VK5QI> its pretty inaccurate
[11:40] <dbrooke> well, all 8 attempts in the log the ephemeris timed out and just that once the almanac also failed
[11:49] <dbrooke> OK, looks like it uses FTP so I'll need to check whether that works through my firewall
[11:50] <daveake> passive/active issue ?
[11:56] <dbrooke> should be fixed now, I default drop and didn't realise anything still used FTP 8-)
[11:58] <dbrooke> I'd not noticed it was failing as it was falling back to almanac and thus "working"
[11:59] <dbrooke> my excuse is I was testing the more obscure paths through the code
[12:01] <dbrooke> now to wait for an RS92

It's not only doing APRS normally on 144.8MHz but also 144.85MHz. We are transmissing QVGA pictures on 144.8MHz. But there is also another VGA picture stream on 144.850MHz. I'm looking for somebody would would volunteer to receive on 144.850MHz.
