[00:01] <bwyatt> I am 70 years old and I often think, with a bit of a smile, what would we have done it this tech level stuff had been around when I was 20.
[00:07] <g7gpr> I'm 46, and I'm in a great position that I have the money to be able to tinker. What would have required several sheets of veroboard, dozens of discrete components and weeks of time can be achieved with an SDR, a small computer and some programming.
[00:10] <Darkside> g7gpr: you do not look 46 lol
[00:11] <bwyatt> Yes I know,  the SDR world in another thing that has bitten me along with the arduino.  The programing makes me scratch my head sometimes but, thanks to the many code writers out there I can usually find something that will work with a few changes.
[00:11] <Darkside> yep, so many examples out there nowdays, and lots of bits and pieces that can be wired together
[00:12] <g7gpr> K6RPT-1 seems to have long breaks in it's telemetry record; not suggesting a reason for this, but it has form.
[00:12] <Darkside> TTN coverage, and day/ight cycles
[00:15] <bwyatt> Thanks for the chat,  I'm going over the the HF bands and see if there is any action.  Have a great day/evening.
[00:15] <g7gpr> Darkside : thank you for the kinds words. bwyatt : good to have met.
[00:16] <bwyatt> Yes, I agree...  Night
[00:18] bwyatt (18209f4d@24-32-159-77.wdwrcmtk01.res.dyn.suddenlink.net) left #highaltitude.
[00:18] <Darkside> g7gpr: on that PR, the testing branch is changing very quickly at the moment :P
[00:18] <Darkside> gearing up for a 1.5.2 release probably tomorrow
[00:35] <g7gpr> OK. I closed that PR. I think you were hinting that moving forwards the philosophy should be that auto_rx was just a receiver, and chasemapper should be used for displaying data.
[00:36] <Darkside> to a point
[00:36] <Darkside> if you're not chasing, you dont need chasemapper
[00:37] <Darkside> if you're running a home station, the auto_rx interface is there to check your system is working, and for better mapping you go use one of the online mapping services
[00:37] <Darkside> the gpsd addition to auto_rx only came in when i had a user that was going out portable with a full az/el system to track 1680 MHz sondes in the US
[00:37] <g7gpr> But what is the best way to implement the implausible position filter?
[00:38] <Darkside> well you definitely need a known location to be able to do that
[00:38] <Darkside> and for a fixed station its easy - just put your location in. the filter limits are pretty huge
[00:38] <g7gpr> True, and they can be configured.
[00:38] <g7gpr> So my own unique situation probably does not deserve a change in code to be inflicted on everyone.
[00:39] <Darkside> well its not too difficult to make the gpsd position receiver code update the global config dict
[00:40] <Darkside> which is what the position filtering stuff uses
[00:40] <g7gpr> yes, that was what I did. I'll target the testing branch though
[00:40] <Darkside> i wouldnt do the thing swhich check the position has changed and re-uploads positions or whatever
[00:41] <g7gpr> That was caused by a concurrency issue between getting the update from GPSD and doing the upload. I think the server was ignoring my positions because they were so far away from the uploaded position.
[00:41] <g7gpr> Or is that not possible?
[00:42] <Darkside> hmm
[00:42] <Darkside> the server doesnt care about the station position

[00:46] <g7gpr> OK. Then that code is unnecessary. Maybe HH was under heavy load at the time.

[09:17] <LA3EQ> I want to try to receive, decode &track
[09:17] <SA6BSS-Mike> it depends , usually the 4fsk is on 434.660 for an example
[09:18] <LA3EQ> i see sa6bbs-9 is getting closer to me
[09:18] <SA6BSS-Mike> oh, that was just a test I did yesterday
