[12:06] <Highpersonix> Darkside: works like a charm
[12:07] <Darkside> what does?
[12:08] <Highpersonix> cusf_predictor
[12:08] <Highpersonix> the problem for tawhiri etc seems to be that they try to download a 168h model
[12:08] <Darkside> this is usually perfectly fine
[12:08] <Highpersonix> usually
[12:08] <Highpersonix> currently, broken
[12:08] <Highpersonix> if you shrink that to 48h, it works
[12:09] <Darkside> this is just a probability thing
[12:09] <Highpersonix> not a quality issue
[12:09] <Highpersonix> that's a download issue
[12:09] <Darkside> and tawhiti isnt downloading the data in the same way as get_wind_Data
[12:09] <Highpersonix> yea
[12:09] <Darkside> and there is no way in hell tawhiri should be using the grib filter like get_wind data is
[12:09] <Darkside> that would be *bad*
[12:09] <Highpersonix> i have no idea about the underbelly of that one
[12:09] <Darkside> it needs to grab the entire model
[12:10] <Darkside> the issue is that there's about 30% timeout rate
[12:10] <Highpersonix> get_wind_data also doesn't want 168h
[12:10] <Darkside> and there arent enough retries
[12:10] <Darkside> Highpersonix: i grab that much for the rfhead.net/sondes predictions
[12:10] <Darkside> thats how i can predict out to a week ahead
[12:10] <Highpersonix> and it currently works?
[12:11] <Darkside> because its going via the grib filter, and i retry, and i have long timeouts
[12:11] <Highpersonix> i tried 168 and it went tits up
[12:11] <Darkside> python bin/get_wind_data.py --lat=-26.0 --lon=134.0 --latdelta=20 --londelta=30 -f 192 -m 0p25_1hr --wait=180 > wind_0p25_week.log
[12:11] <Darkside> oh look, i'm actually doing 192
[12:11] <Highpersonix> ok, i will try that
[12:14] <Highpersonix> INFO:Testing Model: 20210202/12
[12:14] <Highpersonix> INFO:Model does not exist, or does not contain the required data yet. Waiting...
[12:15] <Darkside> are you using the 0p25 model or the 0p50 one?
[12:15] <Darkside> im not sure how far out in time each of the models go
[12:15] <Darkside> also yeah, the 12Z model wont be available yet
[12:15] <Darkside> get rid of the --wait argument and it will get the previous model back (06Z, which shoudl be out)
[12:16] <Highpersonix> wilco
[12:17] <Highpersonix> it's downloading
[12:19] <Darkside> 2021-02-02 12:18:48.178534Z Debug Download message 2021020206 U_wind 30 mb 33 hrs (10242348;152627) (monitor.ml.Error("connection attempt timeout"140.172.138.18:443 src/tcp.ml:120:11)("Raised at file \"src/error.ml\" (inlined), line 9, characters 14-30""Called from file \"src/error.ml\" (inlined), line 5, characters 2-50""Called from file \"src/tcp.ml\", line 120, characters 11-76""Called from file

[12:19] <Darkside> thats backing off a looooong away because of the timeouts
[12:19] <Darkside> ouch*
[12:19] <Darkside> i think its just never getting a complete model

[12:26] <SpacenearUS> New position from 03N4XWC-1 after 0311 hours silence - 12https://tracker.habhub.org/#!qm=All&q=N4XWC-1
[12:27] <SM0ULC-D1vid> Do they have serverside performance issues?
[12:34] <Darkside> NOMADS has lots of issues
[12:36] <Darkside> things break *all the time*. thing is, its usually not the main access to the model that goes flaky, its the more cpu intensive stuff like the GRIB filter (which lets you pick out small areas of the model)
[12:36] <Darkside> tawhiri-downloader does that selection process through HTTP range requests, which is the right way to do it
[12:36] <Darkside> and its been working really well for *ages*. but right now the nomads servers are just performing woefully, and a heap more retries than usual appear to be needed to get data reliably
[12:43] <SM0ULC-D1vid> ah

[12:49] <Darkside> uh... maybe? but i dont do it
[12:50] <Darkside> i think it has to load a lot of the model into ram, so depending on how big of a model you have downloaded, you might run into ram issues

[12:56] <Einsteins> I already set up the tracker as described in https://github.com/projecthorus/radiosonde_auto_rx and I was able to track a sondy as it went along my location in the local browser
[12:57] <Einsteins> but neither on tracker.habhub.org nor on radiosondy.info my data are shown
[12:58] <Einsteins> It would be nice to know if i did someting wrong, or what to improve to participate with my data
[12:58] <Einsteins> I do NOT have a callsign
[12:59] <Darkside> if you have habitat uploading enabled, it will show up on tracker.sondehub.org, not tracker.habhuborg

[13:06] <Darkside> that means you'r enot receiving anythign at th emoment
[13:07] <Einsteins> nothing unusual at the moment
[13:07] <Einsteins> yeah the sonde just went by
[13:07] <Darkside> then there isn't much i can really help you with at the moment..
[13:07] <Einsteins> in the web interface it showed someting like "tracking..." but no errors
[13:08] <Einsteins> is there any possibility to enable log about the upload?
[13:08] <Darkside> well it does this to /var/log/syslog
[13:08] <Darkside> (and syslog.1, syslog.2, etc)
[13:08] <Darkside> you could try: cat /var/log/syslog | grep Habitat
[13:08] <SM0ULC-David> Darkside: right, but if you want to test for local or broad usage, Varnish is really good for reverse-proxies
[13:09] <Darkside> but if you dropped the sonde a while ago, then it might be in one of the 'rolled' log files, like syslog.1 or syslog.2
[13:09] <Darkside> SM0ULC-David: one of the tricks with the models is you kind of need to keep watching the servers for the model to get rolled out. and the timing is not consistent

[13:11] <SM0ULC-David> Darkside: ah, they should really embrace kafka/rss/mqtt of whatevere to publish those things
[13:11] <Einsteins> but on radiosondy.info all stations are listed, not me
[13:11] <Darkside> SM0ULC-David: hahahaha
[13:11] <Darkside> SM0ULC-David: this is NOAA
[13:11] <Darkside> they can barely keep NOMADS working
[13:11] <Darkside> and thats HTTP and ftp
[13:11] <SM0ULC-David> Darkside: yes yes... a lot of cgi-bin.. there :(
[13:11] <Darkside> Einsteins: yeah well i dont know much about what radiosondy required
[13:12] <Darkside> if you are using a non-amateur callsign, i dont know what the passcode field should be
[13:12] <Einsteins> it was listed in the standard station.config file as well
[13:12] <Darkside> yes, but uploads to radiosondy use the APRS-IS protocol.... which is kind of designed for amateur radio calls
[13:12] <Darkside> presumably there will be some limitations on what callsign can be used
[13:13] <Darkside> however i don tknow what that limitation is, because i didn't write radiosondy.info
[13:13] <Einsteins> ok
[13:13] <Einsteins> i found a log
[13:13] <Einsteins> Feb 2 11:33:36 sdrpi auto_rx[16889]: 2021-02-02 11:33:36,948 INFO:APRS-IS - Connected to APRS-IS server radiosondy.info:14590
[13:13] <Darkside> doesnt mean your data is going anywhere though
[13:13] <Darkside> you can connect to an APRS-IS server without a valid passcode... but it will just drop your uploaded data silently
[13:14] <Einsteins> yeah
[13:14] <Einsteins> Port 14590 - Packets stay within radiosondy.info. Non-licensed operators can use this.
[13:14] Last message repeated 2 time(s).
[13:14] <Einsteins> oops
[13:14] <Einsteins> this is from the config file
[13:14] <Darkside> yes... but i dont know what the limitations on the callsign are
[13:14] <ON3JT_Joost> Was the sonde one of those white listed frequencies?
[13:14] <ON3JT_Joost> on one*
[13:14] <Einsteins> yes
[13:15] <Einsteins> it was shown also on radiosondy.info
[13:15] <ON3JT_Joost> ok, just te be sure :-)
[13:15] <Einsteins> and these stations tracked it
[13:15] <Einsteins> Empfänger: 259TEC-14, 9A3ZI-12, AA1-11, BERGH2-14, BIOWL1-11, DAVRU1-11, DB0SC-13, DB0SWR-14, DF1RO-12, DF1VB-14, DF2AP-14, DF8AY-11, DG1MCY-13, DG4NOB-12, DG4NOB-14, DG7FDE-14, DH0FAA-14, DH1JH-14, DH1MLJ-12, DH4SBM-13, DJ2VA-13, DJ9VF-14, DK1RS-14, DL1DJH-14, DL1GMG-14, DL1JHR-15, DL1ZP-14, DL2GWA-14, DL2LAY-13, DL3PW-14, DL3RMG-14, DL4BBY-11,

[13:16] <Darkside> you can see some examples of clearly non-amateur callsigns there
[13:16] <Darkside> SONDE2-11, SUPER2-14
[13:16] <Darkside> PIRAT1-2
[13:16] <Einsteins> yes :-)
[13:16] <Darkside> what are you using for yours then?
[13:17] <Einsteins> i used something like xxxxxxx2
[13:17] <Darkside> might be too long
[13:17] <Einsteins> maybe i will try 6 digits dash and 2 numbers
[13:17] <Darkside> i suspt the limit will be 6 characters
[13:17] <Darkside> yeah
[13:17] <ON3JT_Joost> And what symbol?
[13:17] <Darkside> though i do see "F5KAV-RS"
[13:17] <Darkside> ON3JT_Joost: the default position report symbol is preset in the config
[13:18] <Darkside> Einsteins: you will of course have to go calculate a passcode for hwatever callsign you set
[13:18] <Darkside> and i'm also not sure if your callsign shows up in that list if you dont upload your position to radiosondy.info
[13:18] <ON3JT_Joost> I know, could be changed, radiosondy requires sat symbol
[13:20] <Darkside> i think there's a big comment above that setting which is something along the lines of 'dont change this else it will not work' :P
[13:20] <Einsteins> you need a passcode?
[13:20] <Einsteins> i think not for faked id's
[13:21] <Einsteins> i changed my ID, maybe luck with the next sonde
[13:21] <Einsteins> thanks for the support
[13:21] <Darkside> i think you need it regardless
[13:21] <Darkside> and its not difficult to generate one
[13:22] <Einsteins> APRS Passcode Generator
[13:22] <Einsteins> Important: Do not use fake callsigns to inject content into the APRS-IS network you will likely get banned.
[13:22] <Darkside> well yes
[13:22] <Darkside> but you are going into radiosondy, not into the wider APRS-IS network, as i state in the config file..
[13:22] <ON3JT_Joost> I would assume that if using port 14590, you won't need the passcode, but you never know.
[13:22] <Darkside> ON3JT_Joost: who knows
[13:23] <Darkside> but i'd try with it
[13:23] <Einsteins> so you sugest to generate one?
[13:23] <Darkside> yes
[13:24] <Einsteins> ok, thanks for the help
[13:25] <Einsteins> I will wait for the next sonde

[22:50] <buttim> I don't think so
[22:50] <happysat> was does not work then?
[22:50] <buttim> the PC software
[22:50] <buttim> RS41Tracker
[22:50] <buttim> the audio trace window shows at least some noise
[22:50] <happysat> most common problem is people not having their audio setup okay with that privacy shit in w10 settings
[22:51] <buttim> SDR sharp show a decent signal in the waterfall display
[22:51] <happysat> mhh wierd

[22:55] <happysat> i have this sometimes on my w7 pc no decode while others do run
[22:55] <happysat> dunno whats wrong suddenly it starts decoding
[22:55] <happysat> cna take a while
[22:55] <happysat> my w10 never had this problem
