[10:01] <Darkside> something to try out
[10:01] <Darkside> just been fixing some bugs in how it deals with null audio inputs
[10:10] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ill try to install it too
[10:11] <OZ1SKY_Brian> opens up
[10:11] <OZ1SKY_Brian> looking good :-)
[10:12] <Darkside> try and start it too... thats the main test
[10:12] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ill try to find some rtty
[10:12] <Darkside> just be careful not to upload old telemetry data...
[10:13] <OZ1SKY_Brian> i mean just ham stuff
[10:13] <Darkside> oh that wont work
[10:13] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ah ok
[10:13] <Darkside> the RTTY decoder is very specifically targeted at UKHAS telemetry
[10:13] <OZ1SKY_Brian> yes ok
[10:13] <Darkside> $$<sentence>*CRC16
[10:14] <OZ1SKY_Brian> maybe i could fire up the old skyhab payload :-)
[10:14] <Darkside> and yeah, only supports 7N2 and 8N2 atm
[10:14] <OZ1SKY_Brian> its in the garage, let me go find it
[10:15] <Darkside> the decoder is very specifically hunting for the $$ preamble, then for the * separator and checksum
[10:15] <Darkside> it doesnt look for start/stop bits like a regular RTTY decoder, it essentially ignores them, apart from when syncing up to the packet at the start
[10:16] <Darkside> so it will be a little bit less susceptible to bit errors
[10:16] <Darkside> however, working in that way, its a *lot* less tolerant of the usual crap transmissiosn that fldigi will deal with
[10:17] <Darkside> so if there's un-even timing in the transmission, it will not work well. it expects the transmitting modem to behave like a modem should
[10:18] <OZ1SKY_Brian> batt dead, wonder why, its not been on since 11 Jan 2013 :-)
[10:20] <OZ1SKY_Brian> omg its not dead
[10:20] <Darkside> any idea what RTTY format it is?
[10:21] <OZ1SKY_Brian> must be a standard
[10:21] <OZ1SKY_Brian> 8n2
[10:21] <OZ1SKY_Brian> 50baud
[10:22] <Darkside> ok
[10:22] <Darkside> well, it might decode :P
[10:22] <Darkside> it might not

[10:23] <OZ1SKY_Brian> no
[10:23] <OZ1SKY_Brian> 7n1 50baud
[10:23] <Darkside> ah
[10:23] <Darkside> i dont support that!
[10:24] <Darkside> i probably could add it, but ughhh
[10:24] <SpacenearUS> New vehicle on the map: 034FSKTEST - 12https://tracker.habhub.org/#!qm=All&q=4FSKTEST
[10:24] <Darkside> hah
[10:25] <Darkside> someone is playing with a sonde
[10:25] <OZ1SKY_Brian> this is crazy, that payload and batt is from 2013 and its still working fine
[10:26] <Darkside> sorry i cant decode it for you :P
[10:26] <OZ1SKY_Brian> tried dl-fl
[10:26] <Darkside> i dont want to put toooo much effort into RTTY decoding. Would prefer to spend the time developing better performing mdos
[10:26] <OZ1SKY_Brian> $$$$$SKYHAB,11,10:26:37,56.27818,10.26553,122,0,6,6380*D806
[10:30] <Darkside> PE2BZ: i see you ther e:P
[10:31] <PE2BZ> Darkside, appears to work nice, on 6 mter distance at the moment, so no dx, but if I change the Mode frin 7n2 to 8n2 it defaults to 425 tone spacing which I prefer to stay on the vaule I did set it to.
[10:31] <Darkside> PE2BZ: the tone spacing doesnt matter unless the mask estimator is turned on
[10:31] <OZ1SKY_Brian> hm it also decodes on 7n2, ill try horus again
[10:31] <Darkside> it figures out the tone spacing itself
[10:32] <Darkside> (I'll explain this in the manual... when I write it)
[10:32] <PE2BZ> Ahh right ;-) It does indeed still decode :-)
[10:33] <Darkside> the mask estimator is only needed when the signal is *really* weak, weaker than the current FEC modes will decode reliably
[10:33] <OZ1SKY_Brian> dl-fldigi decodes it in 7N2 50Baud, Horus does not?
[10:33] <Darkside> OZ1SKY_Brian: send me a sample
[10:34] <OZ1SKY_Brian> could it be the $$$$$Ó at the start?
[10:34] <Darkside> nah
[10:34] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ok
[10:34] <Darkside> but the modem is very particular with baud rate accuracy
[10:34] <PE2BZ> I will try this afternoon with the rs41 at home and the remote websdr. For now back to DL7AD on the satellite
[10:35] <SA6BSS-Mike|2> If it clears during the afternoon I might release a aprs rtty tracker
[10:35] <Darkside> OZ1SKY_Brian: but yah, will be intersted in an audio sample, to see if its something I can fix
[10:36] <OZ1SKY_Brian> recording
[10:43] <Darkside> done yet? :P
[10:44] <PE2BZ> 50 bd... takes some time for one string ;-)
[10:46] <OZ1SKY_Brian> Darkside pm
[10:46] <Darkside> yeah
[10:46] <Darkside> got it
[10:46] <OZ1SKY_Brian> cheers
[10:48] <OZ1SKY_Brian> habhub is not having it, so maybe something changed, its uploading, but nothing showes up?
[10:48] <OZ1SKY_Brian> dl-fldigi that is

[10:50] <DL7AD2> yes
[10:50] <DL7AD2> oil pressure warning didnt go off
[10:51] <PE2BZ> Flight delayed. Payload stil on 80 m asl
[10:57] <OZ1SKY_Brian> Darkside does the audio file work?
[10:57] <Darkside> OZ1SKY_Brian: nah, getting issues decoding
[10:57] <Darkside> not sure why
[10:57] <OZ1SKY_Brian> bad audio?
[10:57] <Darkside> i think your baud rate is a little off
[10:58] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ok not sure, dl-fldigi got it fine
[10:58] <Darkside> wrong sideband?
[10:58] <Darkside> i dont currently have an 'invert' option
[10:58] <OZ1SKY_Brian> it was not in RV mode
[10:58] <Darkside> mmk
[10:59] <OZ1SKY_Brian> but dl-fldigi decoded on both 7n1 and 7n2
[10:59] <Darkside> yeah dl-fldigi will probably ignore the bits in between
[10:59] <Darkside> oh
[10:59] <OZ1SKY_Brian> so dont know if its the one or the other
[10:59] <Darkside> so its possiby 7n1
[10:59] <OZ1SKY_Brian> yeah could be
[10:59] <Darkside> i wonder if i can hack in 7n1 support quickly
[11:00] <OZ1SKY_Brian> found the project from back then, let me have a look
[11:03] <OZ1SKY_Brian> hm can´t remember where to find it, havent played with arduino since 2013
[11:03] <OZ1SKY_Brian> wait
[11:04] <OZ1SKY_Brian> // Stop bit
[11:04] <OZ1SKY_Brian> rtty_txbit (1);

[11:04] <OZ1SKY_Brian> }
[11:04] <OZ1SKY_Brian> // Stop bit
[11:04] <OZ1SKY_Brian> rtty_txbit (1);
[11:05] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ok
[11:05] <Darkside> mm still not happy
[11:06] <Darkside> its interesting, it gets the first bit of the sentence, then loses it
[11:06] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ok thats strange
[11:06] <Darkside> your baud rate appears to be closer to 48 Hz than 50
[11:07] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ok not sure about that, i "should" be 50
[11:07] <Darkside> hoo boy
[11:07] <Darkside> yeah
[11:07] <Darkside> the symbol rate is *drifting* throughout the packet
[11:07] <OZ1SKY_Brian> wonder how dl-fldigi keeps up with that
[11:07] chris_99 (uid26561@gateway/web/irccloud.com/x-hirdnmnufimkower) left irc:
[11:07] <Darkside> its fsk demodulator is a bit different to this one
[11:07] <Darkside> and a bit more tolerant of such things
[11:07] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ah ok
[11:07] <Darkside> so yeah
[11:08] <OZ1SKY_Brian> well then its a good testcase LOL
[11:08] <Darkside> yeah well im not necessarily goign to spend ages working on code to fix an issue that coudl be solved with a better crystal or soemthing :P
[11:08] <Darkside> or better symbol timing (use interrupts!!!!1)
[11:08] <OZ1SKY_Brian> no surely not :-)
[11:09] <OZ1SKY_Brian> const int bitRate = 50;
[11:09] <Darkside> still, it wasnt too difficult to add 7N1 support to horusdemodlib
[11:09] <OZ1SKY_Brian> should be
[11:09] <Darkside> sure, but im guessing you rmodulation functions are based around delays, right?
[11:09] <OZ1SKY_Brian> errhhh not sure about that, been too long to understand the code
[11:10] <Darkside> and since theres going tobe a different number of instructions between different transmitted bits (like, going between the loop that transmits the byte, to sending a stop-bit), the symbol rate will not be uniform
[11:10] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ok i see, well its 2013 style payload :-)
[11:10] <Darkside> yeah
[11:11] <Darkside> back when we were throwing away performance :P
[11:11] <OZ1SKY_Brian> but it worked fine back then :-)
[11:11] <Darkside> anyways, i should look at adding the ppm offset graph into the gui, so everyone can see how far off-rate their payloads are
[11:11] <OZ1SKY_Brian> and is still running on the old 2013 batt, crazy
[11:12] <bertrik> nice
[11:12] <Darkside> i mean, when a payload is in teh air the SNR is usually so high that you can get away with a lot
[11:12] <OZ1SKY_Brian> just took it from the garage and powered on
[11:13] <OZ1SKY_Brian> from back then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkXXe-BeF_4
[11:17] <Darkside> any pics of the payload?
[11:18] <OZ1SKY_Brian> yeah somewhere, let me see
[11:18] <OZ1SKY_Brian> had a webpage once
[11:20] <Darkside> well you have it in front of you, right? :P
[11:27] <OZ1SKY_Brian> had to get it online again and correct some links
[11:27] <OZ1SKY_Brian> http://digitalinfo.dk/hab/hab.htm
[11:28] <Darkside> i think thise arduino boards use a resonator, not a crystal, which might partly explain why your symbol rate is off...
[11:29] <OZ1SKY_Brian> yeah that might be it
[11:29] <Darkside> but the issue wasnt so much that it was off, i can correct for that a bit
[11:29] <Darkside> it was more that it appeared to be drifting throughout the transmission
[11:30] <OZ1SKY_Brian> it was only ever tested with dl-fldigi, so as that worked, i didnt take notis of it
[11:34] <OZ1SKY_Brian> That the same Energizer Ultimate Lithium in the picture that is still working :-)

[16:13] <YO3ICT> daveake Thanks, getting rid of that Serial print did the trick... :/
[16:14] <daveake> You must be close to running out of RAM so look for other strings and swap them to F("whatever")
[16:15] <daveake> The 328p is very tight on RAM
[16:22] <YO3ICT> Yes. That print was included for debug and to test the geofence.
[16:23] <YO3ICT> I do not have Serial prints on the flight firmware other than putting the GPS into flight mode and in/out of the software backup mode.
[16:27] <YO3ICT> and those are writes, not prints anyway
