[08:14] <YO3ICT> daveake Good morning. 1. Removed the card while running then quickly plugged it back, SSDV stopped, telemetry.txt stopped logging while the tracker frame counter continued to increment. 2. Tested the tracker on external supply, got it to run down to 2.7V then it failed completely and briefly restarted. SSDV worked normally down to 2.7V. 3. Manually started the tracker+camera app within Putty. Then disconnected the camera, giving th
[08:14] <YO3ICT> e error "failed to enable component". Then plugged the camera back, take_pic_3 and 4 and the SSDV transmission resumed normally
[08:15] <daveake> Yes I've tested lots of times with removing the SD card, to ensure that the tracker program keeps going, which it does.
[08:16] <daveake> Are you saying the camera restarted after reconnecting it
[08:16] <daveake> ?
[08:19] <YO3ICT> Yes
[08:20] <daveake> cool. Not tried that one.
[08:20] <daveake> not successfully anyway
[08:20] <YO3ICT> https://imgur.com/a/T2unHAW this is what it said when the camera was disconnected
[08:21] <YO3ICT> Does it keep somewhere the logs, the text, as if it was running within a terminal? I might check if it gave the same errors during flight
[08:22] <daveake> no
[08:22] <daveake> that's standard raspistill not working output
[08:24] <daveake> Did you say that the camera script died when the camera was removed ?
[08:25] <YO3ICT> I removed it then plugged it back. SSDV stopped when it ran out of packets to send but also the txt logging stopped
[08:26] <daveake> Right, but did the camera script continue when you reconnected the camera ?
[08:26] <YO3ICT> Did not removed the card and the camera at the same time.
[08:27] <YO3ICT> Ah, sorry
[08:28] <YO3ICT> I thought you asked if the camera script stopped when the card was removed.
[08:28] <daveake> Well that too ... did it stop ?
[08:28] <YO3ICT> Yes, the camera script continued ok when replugging the camera
[08:28] <daveake> OK cool
[08:28] <YO3ICT> Let's see what it does when removing the SD card
[08:29] <daveake> With a removed SD card, SSDV/images are going to stop regardless of anything else
[08:29] <daveake> Not a recoverable situation in flight, but the tracker keeps going
[08:30] <YO3ICT> https://imgur.com/a/soaDzVA
[08:30] <YO3ICT> This is the terminal after briefly removed the card
[08:30] <daveake> heh even sleep fails
[08:33] <YO3ICT> The thing is that I have a simple python running at startup that constantly polls a push button. If pressed, the thing will do a shutdown after activating the buzzer three times.
[08:34] <YO3ICT> Which also fails after the SD card was removed. But the buzzer worked as expected when I pressed the button yesterday after recovering the payload.
[08:47] OZ7EMA (~emanuel_@2001:b07:ad4:b747:454f:b401:f4c8:823c) joined #highaltitude.
[08:52] <daveake> Well, since SSDV stopped leaving some unclaimed images, and raspistill left a temporary file on the SD, I think the most likely scenario is that raspistill locked up. That would stop the camera script from continuing, so it no longer took or selected/moved or converted images.
[08:55] <YO3ICT> Removing the camera RIGHT\ after the take_pic_3 starts...gives this error : https://imgur.com/a/OYV2PMg , leaves a ~ file within the LORA1 directory and SSDV never recovers back.
[08:55] <daveake> Yes that seems to match what happened
[08:56] <daveake> The timing would suggest it's power-related
[08:58] <SpacenearUS> New vehicle on the map: 03CALLSIGN123_chase - 12https://tracker.habhub.org/#!qm=All&q=CALLSIGN123_chase
[09:00] <YO3ICT> You think that because it also matched the period with the lowest temps?
[09:03] <daveake> The chance of a physical disconnect precisely at the moment it takes a photo is less than the chance of a power glitch at the time it's taking a photo, and yes if you add the fact that it happened at the coldest altitude makes that even more likely as that's when the batteries have the highest internal resistance and lowest voltage.
[09:17] <YO3ICT> daveake Makes sense. Any data on what the internal resistance can be? I could test this
[09:18] <daveake> Not vs temperature. See https://data.energizer.com/pdfs/l91.pdf
[09:21] <daveake> Though they do say "True IR is not adversely affected by temperature (almost no change between -20 and 40°C), discharge current, depth of discharge, battery age or storage at elevated
[09:21] <daveake> temperatures."
[09:22] <daveake> Have a read of https://data.energizer.com/PDFs/lithiuml91l92_appman.pdf they go into IR and effective IR
[09:31] <YO3ICT> AFAYK, does the camera power consumption varies with the photo resolution?
[09:37] <daveake> Probably just lasts longer
