[06:00] <OZ1SKY_Brian> yes that looks nice, should give a good angle of attack :-)
[06:01] <SA6BSS-Mike|2> yes indeed, hope he knows of to use a blocking diode on each array
[06:01] <OZ1SKY_Brian> havent played with solar panels, whats the diode for?
[06:01] <OZ1SKY_Brian> just so current only flow one direction?
[06:02] <SA6BSS-Mike|2> only one array of cells is in sunlight, then the others acts like a dummy oad for tht current
[06:02] <OZ1SKY_Brian> ah yes
[06:03] <SA6BSS-Mike|2> so to need to keep the current to go to the board insted of back into the other cells
[06:03] <OZ1SKY_Brian> they look large, should give good power with just one active
[06:04] <SA6BSS-Mike|2> yep, I cant quickly figure what size they are

[06:14] <OZ1SKY_Brian> got the lora board installed and software, so ready now if something comes this way
[06:14] <OZ1SKY_Brian> And PE2BZ helped me setup the config file, so should be good to go.
[06:15] <SA6BSS-Mike|2> cool, I have a 434 lora built, if there should ever come any lora this way :)
[06:16] <SA6BSS-Mike|2> you are in a better location as Ben sends them up quite reguarly

[18:08] <YO3ICT> Good evening
[18:09] <YO3ICT> Got a question/need some ideas or tips on Pi in the sky
[18:09] <YO3ICT> Here is my Pi Zero dauther board https://imgur.com/a/0BeKBQh that fits the LoRa radio and the GPS chip
[18:12] <YO3ICT> If I power up just the daugher board, GPS works fine. If I power up Pi + daugher board thru the USB connector on the Pi Zero, the GPS takes forever to get a lock (even when the PITS tracker+camera scripts are killed on the Pi). Tested with monopone, sleeve dipole, ground plane, SMD chip antenna and even with a hijacked GPS RF frontend from one, now
[18:12] <YO3ICT> dead, RS41.
[18:13] <OZ1SKY_Brian> sounds to me like something on the PI is emitting QRM on the GPS freq
[18:14] <YO3ICT> Anyone got any ideas? To me it looks like conducted or radiated noise from the Pi but not sure about how to mitigate the effects.
[18:19] <YO3ICT> Brian, that's what I am thinking but having a hard time figuring out where to start. And if is conducted thru the traces or radiated to the antenna.
[18:20] <OZ1SKY_Brian> got some longer cables so you can move the boards more apart?
[18:20] <OZ1SKY_Brian> or put the pi in a metal box and the gps outside of the box
[18:21] <OZ1SKY_Brian> cookiecan
[18:21] <OZ1SKY_Brian> or samething
[18:21] <OZ1SKY_Brian> something
[18:26] <YO3ICT> Not an option for this payload https://imgur.com/a/vA1Y1q4
[18:32] <YO3ICT> Any ideas from the PITS team? daveake or Upu?
[18:38] snaked (~snaked@pdpc/supporter/active/snaked) joined #highaltitude.
[18:43] dude12312414 (~test@gateway/tor-sasl/dude12312414) joined #highaltitude.
[18:44] <SA6BSS-Mike> known problem the pi cam jams the gps
[18:45] <SA6BSS-Mike> lets see what Davake says about it
[18:48] <Upu> get the antenna away from the pi
[18:50] <Upu> or use something active/filtered
[18:50] <Upu> https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/S73BCnvk/IMG_3138.jpg
[18:51] <YO3ICT> Upu, holy cow, that looks nice
[18:51] <YO3ICT> Got a part number on that antenna?
[18:52] <Upu> thanks thats the new Pi In the Sky/Habudino/PITSZero replacement
[18:52] <Upu> sure
[18:52] <Upu> TAOGLAS.AP.10X.01
[18:52] <Upu> AP.10H.01
[18:53] <Upu> APRS on top https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/GxIzgYNg/IMG_3144.JPG
[18:56] <YO3ICT> How it behaves in that configuration with the camera on?
[18:57] <Upu> well the board has its own AVR on board
[18:57] <Upu> interfaces with the Pi for camera
[18:58] <Upu> but if you mean does it get a lock
[18:58] <Upu> then yes
[18:59] <YO3ICT> So you're not using the CSI ? Or I understand wrong
[19:00] <Upu> you'd have to ask Dave
[19:00] <Upu> but basically the pi sents the avr image date
[19:00] <Upu> the avr transmits it
[19:00] <Upu> mainly so if the Pi crashes the avr carries on
[19:02] <YO3ICT> What about the CAM M8? Is that an option to try for me?
[19:05] <Upu> yeah it performs well. Simple fix for you is stick the GPS antenna on the end of 10 cms of coax
[19:05] <Upu> and get it away from the Pi
[19:07] <YO3ICT> Should I try a monopole at the end of some coax? All my flights so far used monopoles, including 4 floaters, all with M8C from you. One of them flew 116 days.
[19:09] <Upu> yeah that would work
[19:09] <Upu> just get it away from the noisy Pi :)
[19:09] <Upu> heck just solder coax and strip the last 5-6mm off
[19:10] <Upu> or whatever the 1/4 wave is @ 1.542Ghz
[19:10] <PE2BZ> 47 mm :-)
[19:10] <Upu> honestly Ublox will get a lock if you attach a wet beer mat
[19:10] <Upu> yeah that
[19:10] <YO3ICT> tried that, in the dimensions of a sleeve dipole, did not perform significantly better
[19:15] <SA6BSS-Mike> did you put a snaon ferite on the end of the coax where the sleve ends?
[19:15] <SA6BSS-Mike> *snapon
[19:16] <YO3ICT> Nope, no weight budget for that, Mike :)
[19:16] <SA6BSS-Mike> its a pisky, a small ferite cant hur :)
[19:16] <SA6BSS-Mike> t
[19:17] <SA6BSS-Mike> no floater I asume :)
[19:17] <YO3ICT> Thanks guys, will try a monopole on some coax tomorrow, will report the conclusions
[19:18] <SA6BSS-Mike> http://qrp-labs.com/flights/u4b6.html#gallery692980286f-4
[19:18] <SA6BSS-Mike> tryed this as well?
[19:18] <YO3ICT> Nope, no floater, its the 3d printed payload box, just received permission for a 13-21 june launch, started testing the payload then bummer, its so lazy to get a lock, initially I thought it was in quarantine, too, as the rest of us
[19:19] <SA6BSS-Mike> :)
