[13:06] <m6mux> :) did you get any images off the SD card?
[13:06] <daveake> ... took a moment to realise why it wouldn't focus on anything
[13:06] <daveake> Yes loads
[13:07] <daveake> You mean the flight ?
[13:07] <m6mux> moment of burst image?
[13:07] <daveake> Steve and I both had Pi cameras
[13:07] <daveake> We didn't have anything looking upwards
[13:07] <m6mux> I was wondering about what the diameter would be at the moment of burst
[13:07] <daveake> Done that before. Needs a video as it's so quick
[13:07] <fsphil> not big enough
[13:08] <daveake> Oh from the ground? Need a telescope. It's been done

[13:22] <MedadR> Lovely day for a pico balloon launch here in London. We will launch in I think 2 hours. One tracker is working but one is giving problems. Yet to fill balloons.

[13:52] <m6mux> Why is it that there is always a tracker problem? It seems to be a recurring issue in HAB...
[13:54] <Phil_M0DNY> There's a lot of things that have to work right - gps signal, received 434 signal, lack of local interference... and that's only the ones you can't control ;)
[13:55] <Phil_M0DNY> forgot news crews and media people, their proximity seems to scare trackers.

[14:03] <PE2BZ> Battery connections, using metal tape on the outside of the box which keeps antenna signals away and so on...
[14:06] <Phil_M0DNY> Those are things that you can test and mitigate, but even those often get rushed in the name of deadlines.
[14:06] <Phil_M0DNY> It happens to us all :)
[14:08] <Phil_M0DNY> And imperial have built their own trackers, they won't learn anything if they don't have some issues every now and then ;)
[14:09] <PE2BZ> Breaking the solar panels on your payload with your sunglasses. decide to fly the payload with a CR123 instead releasing the payload and see the balloon go up and the payload go down because the battery connector you used for the wire to the balloon could not carry the weight of the battery....
[14:09] <SIbot> In real units: 123 in = 3.1 m
[14:09] <PE2BZ> As Phil said, it happens to us all...
[14:10] <PE2BZ> Some fly a balloon for the first time and do not calculate the weight of chute and ropes, making the payload to crawl up wit 0.6 m/s and reach float state (wit 70 gram payload) and get the longest flight to Poland...
[14:11] <PE2BZ> Which even got back from a holiday beach house in Letvia

[14:57] <daveake> So ... PTE in the garden, no case, no lock
[14:57] <daveake> PTE on my desk, gets a lock
[14:58] <daveake> Maybe my cheapo GPS repeater is better than I thought :p
[15:06] <PE2BZ> But PTE in Elsworth, no lock. So that could not be caused by your repeater....
[15:06] <daveake> No, I mean, my repeater probably gives it a better signal than being in free air
[15:07] <daveake> Just tried moving the chip antenna away from the pi and that seems to help
[15:07] <PE2BZ> Ahh... I had an oscillating repeater once blocking my GPS signals with the tracker outside the window. RX and TX to close to eacht other.
[15:08] <daveake> Sure, no not that here
[15:09] <daveake> I'll put longer wires between Pi and GPS that should sort it
[15:09] <Phil_M0DNY> Yep I've had proximity issues with the Pi and GPS before :)
[15:10] <Phil_M0DNY> without a camera on it
[15:17] <daveake> Camera not close on this one
[15:17] <daveake> I did have a GPS drop out on one when the camera was doing video

[15:17] <daveake> The chip antenna is a bit marginal anyway
[15:19] <Phil_M0DNY> yeah I remember that one - hence why I mentioned
[15:19] <Phil_M0DNY> chip antenna is just a bit too broadband I think

[19:24] <MedadR> Thanks to all those who are tracking ICSPACE12 and 13. Now after many launches we think that we have figured it out. We send out these slow pips when the GPS does not have a fix, all while it is searching for a fix. This pip is probably overwhelming the GPS RF front end, making it much more difficult for it to get a fix. The Pips are part of the problem.
