[17:24] <SA6BSS-Mike> ok, is that a ELG tracker?
[17:25] <SA6BSS-Mike> ELK*
[17:25] <SA6BSS-Mike> just home after a few days away
[17:32] <PE2BZ> Indeed the ELK tracker, struggling a bit with GPS altitude .
[17:32] <MedadR> PE2BZ: It seems to be drifting?
[17:32] <MedadR> frequency drift?
[17:36] <SA6BSS-Mike> PE2BZ: ok. will turn my yagi into that directiom. it my only "good" window on 70cm, managed to hear trackers 370km out on 8000m alt
[17:37] <SA6BSS-Mike> its shuttin of for the day?
[17:37] <SA6BSS-Mike> pretty happy, BSS22 managed to get to 11500 on a single helium balloon :)
[17:37] <SA6BSS-Mike> new personal best!

[17:41] <SA6BSS-Mike> ah, ok, will listen out for it tomorrow morning
[17:42] <SA6BSS-Mike> stil my good window of rx, but I have only a folded dipole for 2m
[17:42] <SA6BSS-Mike> but works realy well
[17:43] <SA6BSS-Mike> mail Brian and LA3EQ, they will be in a better place then me, but I guess the aprs takes care of it otherwise
[17:44] <PE2BZ> Nice altitudes ! My first foil balloon went up to 12100 meter this morning, with 26 gram payload. Unfotunately I checked the necklift AFTER glueing the neck, which was 44 gram. So it bursted. Thats why I decided to send the WB8ELK tracker up, same type of balloon, but it won´t go higher as 6000 m. That´s the difference between prestretching (3 days for the first balloon) and not pre-stretching (the seconde flight today)
[17:44] <SA6BSS-Mike> I got some info from Eduard, looked like a Bobo?
[17:45] <SA6BSS-Mike> wow 44gram !!! :)
[17:45] <SA6BSS-Mike> I thought I realy pushed it with 7 gram fl
[17:46] <nmcc> I thought prestretching was a good idea?
[17:46] <SA6BSS-Mike> I have a few of them laying arounf here, maby should get some of my old surplus 70cm tied to one and try my luck
[17:47] <nmcc> I guess you could add weight after a seal to counteract any excess necklift
[17:47] <SA6BSS-Mike> but if its a Bobo balloon its tpu , new technics required to lern how to streach and fill them
[17:47] <SA6BSS-Mike> its streach like rubber but is a plastic
[17:48] <SA6BSS-Mike> so no conventional technics used on foils will work on them

[18:03] <SA6BSS-Mike> ok
[18:04] <MedadR> what is this balloon you talk about?
[18:04] <PE2BZ> nmcc, I found out that not pre-stretching was a bad idea
[18:05] <MedadR> Are these Bobo balloons better than the Qualatex 36 inch balloons?
[18:05] <SIbot> In real units: 36 in = 0.9 m
[18:05] <PE2BZ> https://www.ballonnenconcurrent.nl/product/63229/
[18:06] <PE2BZ> I succesfully lifted 26 gram to 11000 m with this balloon. Pre-stretched but quite overfilled....
[18:06] <MedadR> Thanks for the listing. Does it float as well?
[18:07] <MedadR> or does it float well?
[18:07] <PE2BZ> And the not pre-stretched only floated at 6000 m, so nmcc indeed stretching is good
[18:07] <PE2BZ> I would say this type floats better but you have to take care of pre-stretching and filling.
[18:08] <MedadR> Has anyone got one of the Bobo balloons around the world?
[18:08] <SA6BSS-Mike> yes, and also the moste importent , does it hold the gas over time
[18:08] <nmcc> May be a few months before I have a try, but Ive started weighing the components Ive got &
[18:08] <SA6BSS-Mike> no bobo around the world
[18:09] <PE2BZ> SA6BSS-Mike, it did not even hold the air, until I glued the neck. I never thought that folding and tyrap would not be enough for a foil balloon. Which might have been the problem with PB0AHX-1 also
[18:09] <MedadR> Another question: where do you get the balloon material to make custom floater balloons? the multilayer films?
[18:10] <PE2BZ> MedadR, my first Bobo with 28 gram payload, not pre-stretched, ended up at an amazing altitude of 32 meters, a tree at the end of our street.
[18:10] <SA6BSS-Mike> glue is good :)
[18:11] <PE2BZ> The second one, with 28 gram, not pre-stretched, floated (with a recovered Leo Bodnar payload) at 3300 meter but the mountains between France and Spain appeared to be a bit higher....
[18:11] <PE2BZ> trees are also good.
[18:11] <SA6BSS-Mike> MedadR: hard to get low quantetis of evoh film
[18:11] <PE2BZ> But not ment to catch payload
[18:11] <SA6BSS-Mike> trees are evil!
[18:12] <MedadR> SA6BSS-Mike: Have you gotten the evoh film before?
[18:12] <SA6BSS-Mike> never got hold of any
[18:12] <MedadR> One of our balloons got stuck in a tree as well
[18:12] <SA6BSS-Mike> you must buy like 500kg
[18:12] <MedadR> annoying
[18:12] <MedadR> SA6BSS-Mike: Yes It is proveing to be very hard. What is your solution? only use Qualatex balloons?
[18:13] <SA6BSS-Mike> light payload and qualtex or the chinese clear foil ones
[18:14] <SA6BSS-Mike> its been proven today that in combination with hydrogen you can get them up to 12000m with one $1,30 balloon
[18:14] <MedadR> I contacted a number of suppliers but I did not have any success with getting the right evoh multilayer film.
[18:14] <SA6BSS-Mike> no, same here
[18:15] <MedadR> Have you heard of Heptax?
[18:15] <SA6BSS-Mike> got myself a rolle of pvc platic , will try make a balloon or two out of that and try

[18:15] <SA6BSS-Mike> fingers crossed for B25 now
[18:16] <MedadR> SA6BSS-Mike: Have your heard of Heptax, a very light multilayer film made in Japan?
[18:16] <SA6BSS-Mike> yes
[18:16] <MedadR> no success getting that?
