[23:06] <labjg> Darkside - no joy with auto-rx and no preamp :(
[23:07] <labjg> Been a few local balloons that it should have seen.. oh well
[23:07] <labjg> not sure when i'll get chance to look at it
[23:08] <roji> labjg: calibrated receiver?
[23:09] <labjg> in what sense?
[23:09] <roji> ppm frequency error
[23:09] <labjg> yep calibrated
[23:10] <labjg> could check again i suppose..
[23:10] <roji> now that i think about it ... does auto_rx work without, just showing wrong freqs?!
[23:11] <labjg> i would have thought so..
[23:11] <roji> yeah, as long as the scanner and decoder part are using the same radio ...
[23:14] Laurenceb (~laurence@90.200.208.46.dyn.plus.net) joined #highaltitude.
[23:18] <Darkside> not quite trie
[23:18] <Darkside> not quite true*
[23:18] <Darkside> but if you have the experimental decoders enabled, its a lot more forgiving to frequency offsets
[23:19] happysat (~katpoep@s5594c83f.adsl.online.nl) left irc: Remote host closed the connection
[23:19] <Darkside> roji: the difficult part is detecting the centre-frequency of the sonde signal - often they have a 'spiky' appearance in the spectrum, and so I cheat a bit by quantizing the detected frequency to the nearest 10 kHz boundary, as no sonde has a finer than 10 kHz channel frequency resolution
[23:20] <Darkside> anyway, the detection and decode (if you are using the 'experimental' decoder) parts are fairly tolerant of frequency drifts, up to maybe a few khz
[23:20] <roji> Darkside: so as long as the fo is a multiple of 10k... :)
[23:21] <Darkside> roji: well the 'nominal' frequencies are always going to be on 10 khz boundaries
[23:21] <Darkside> but anyway, it seems to work fairly well
[23:22] <Darkside> definitely improvements that can be made to the peak detection algorithms, but its a lot of work for not a huge amount of gain
[23:22] <Darkside> anyway, gtg...
