[11:22] <Viproz> Darkside, https://imgur.com/a/4UdvbNT There seems to be a problem with the DFM sonde serial number, at the bottom it's me decoding it with auto rx but the serial number do not match up with the others
[11:22] <Viproz> Is everyone generating a different SN for DFM ?
[11:24] <Viproz> It also appears that at 2019-01-09 23:01:00 the data sent had a completely wrong latitude

[12:22] <Darkside> Viproz: i suspect im not doing it the same as other software
[12:22] <Darkside> when i added support for it, sending the data into APRS in a format to match the other receivers wasnt really on my mind at the time
[12:23] <Darkside> also yes, the DFMs CRC checking is probably not on correctly
[12:26] <Viproz> Okay, I guess the others did the same so everyone gets a different ID for the same RS ^^
[12:33] <Darkside> yup...
[12:33] <Darkside> fine for uploading to habhub :-)
[12:33] <Darkside> (since i'm the only one that uploads there)
[12:34] <PE2BZ> Hi Darkside Viproz can I have a sort option to have the latest received sonde on top ? Now, set at 720 minutes history the latest sonde is the last of 7 lines and is default not visible. If I scroll the window to the last line it automatically scrolls back to the top line. For now solved by setting the history time to 120 minutes by the way
[12:38] <Darkside> uhm
[12:38] <Darkside> maybe?
[12:38] <PE2BZ> Maybe will do ;-)
[12:38] <Darkside> its all a matter of time to do it
[12:39] <PE2BZ> Youngest age on top :-)
[12:40] <Darkside> yes its probably trivial to do
[12:40] <Darkside> but i'm stupidly busy over the next few weeks
[12:41] <Darkside> so unless somoene figures it out and issues a pull request, it will take me a few weeks to get around to it
[12:41] <Darkside> i suggest you raise an issue on the github page so we can keep track of it
[12:44] <PE2BZ> I will, thanks !

[15:50] <Viproz> PE2BZ, hey, a brand new iMet would be fun to decode, probably a bit easy if SM decodes it already but still ^^
[15:51] <Viproz> Oh they kill them before they even land ?
[15:51] <fsphil> that's a bit rude
[15:52] <PE2BZ> It was from a military base in Belgium, Beauvechain (Bevekom)
[15:56] <Viproz> On radiosonde.info they say that in 2016 they didn't have parachutes on the DFM they were launching, maybe they don't have one on iMets too
[15:57] <PE2BZ> They still have no on the DFM´s so there is a chance because the iMet newer type is also lightweight
[15:58] <chris_99> they kill them? what's that mean out of interest
[15:59] <PE2BZ> Well, if you know where it lands and you run the predictor backwards you can find the poor soldiers very easy
[15:59] <Viproz> chris_99, some RS have a shutdown timer, they send them and X minutes or hours after liftoff they shutdown completely
[16:00] <chris_99> hmm, so you're not saying it actually destroys the eeprom etc. or are you?
[16:00] <chris_99> *the data in the eeprom
[16:01] <chris_99> as in, i'm curious if they're reusable
[16:04] <chris_99> PE2BZ: sorry just saw what you wrote, isn't the signal in the clear
[16:04] <chris_99> normally
[16:05] <PE2BZ> The RS41 has a version with encrypted data and GPS so you only see the frame counter
[16:05] <chris_99> ahh
[16:05] <Viproz> I don't know but if they send them without chute maybe there is another king of destruction afterwards :D
[16:05] <chris_99> oh heh, i didn't know they didn't have a chute
[16:05] <Viproz> It hasn't been cracked ?
[16:05] <PE2BZ> The military tend to use these (in the UK a lot) and also enable the kill timer
[16:05] <chris_99> what if it his a poor person
[16:05] <chris_99> *hits
[16:05] <PE2BZ> Then it´s a poor person ?
[16:05] <chris_99> haha
[16:06] <fsphil> a sore poor person
[16:06] <PE2BZ> Those iMet are < 100 gram and they survice hitting a human body, no worries !
[16:06] <PE2BZ> The dfm´s tend to land with 11 -12 m/s and survice with ease.
[16:12] <PE2BZ> But Viproz I trade an RS41 (in unmodified form) for a working M10 :-)
[16:24] <PE2BZ> <Viproz> It hasn't been cracked ?
[16:24] <PE2BZ> once when hit by a car I believe....
[16:26] <Viproz> I still need to catch a new one and maybe we have a RS41 waiting for us in a field, we couldn't try to get it yesterday unfortunately
[16:27] <Viproz> If they change the key each time it would be annoying to hack but otherwise it's feasible :p

[20:06] <chris_99> i'm just wondering, would a rate gyro be fairly simple to reverse engineer, in that there should only be coils for the motor and some kind of feedback?
[20:09] <chris_99> (just contemplating getting one from fleabay)
[20:29] <adamgreig> what sort of rate gyro?
[20:30] <chris_99> par example - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Elliott-Bodenseewerk-Rate-Gyro-Unit-Roll/222981969681
[20:33] <chris_99> i'm assuming there's 3 because they handle different axis
[20:33] <chris_99> but i could be wrong?
[20:33] <adamgreig> gosh, who knows
[20:33] <adamgreig> it says 'roll'
[20:34] <chris_99> mm yeah, unless you need 3x of them heh, and theres only 3 for duplication
[20:35] <SpeedEvil> Even if you can reverse engineer it, it seems unlikely it's going to be remotely simple to drive.
[20:35] <adamgreig> even finding a mating connector is likely to be entertaining i bet
[20:35] <SpeedEvil> I assume you've tried googling the nato part number?
[20:36] <chris_99> yeah, i found a part no. for a similar unit
[20:36] <SpeedEvil> I would not assume there are 3 gyros in that.
[20:36] <SpeedEvil> It's quite possible.
[20:36] <chris_99> i mean for a gyro in the uni, not for the unit itself
