[10:28] Action: AndyEsser places order with Upu
[10:28] <AndyEsser> could it be that I might be trying to find time for HAB stuff again :)
[10:28] <fsphil> what is ... time?
[10:29] Action: Upu order recieved
[10:29] <AndyEsser> fsphil: ha!
[10:29] <AndyEsser> ordered a replacement power cable for my FT817 last week as well
[10:30] <fsphil> up to anything intreesting?
[10:30] <AndyEsser> and a replacement charging dock for my Baofeng
[10:30] <AndyEsser> fsphil: basically just redoing everything again
[10:30] <AndyEsser> getting back into it
[10:30] <fsphil> the project on the mailing list to photo the milkyway is a cool one
[10:30] <AndyEsser> ordered a new Ublox and TX as I have no idea where my other ones have gone
[10:30] <AndyEsser> but still have a whole load of AVRs in the office to play with so hopefully just breadboard out a tracker again
[10:31] <AndyEsser> and then see if the PCB Fab house just down the road from me is any good :)
[10:33] <fsphil> odds are they're not :)
[10:33] <AndyEsser> ha ha
[10:33] <AndyEsser> well their budget service is just outsourced to china - so I guess just dirtypcb-esque
[10:33] <AndyEsser> but they do have a proper in house make and fab service
[10:33] <AndyEsser> maybe when I actually have something worth making that I can't be bothered to solder myself
[10:35] <AndyEsser> http://www.merlinpcbgroup.com/
[10:42] <AndyEsser> want to do a launch next summer to get some photos ahead of the wedding :)
[10:43] <AndyEsser> can someone remind me who it is I need to speak to about setting up a launch prediction job?
[10:44] <fsphil> just keep pestering #habhub
[10:44] <fsphil> someone will give in
[10:44] Action: fsphil can't do it

[10:47] <fsphil> I think I could land one in that area too
[10:47] <fsphil> should try that some day
[10:47] <AndyEsser> I'd be game for tracking and recovering that
[10:47] <fsphil> good excuse for a wenet test
[10:47] <AndyEsser> wenet?

[12:04] <craag> Huh ok - reason I ask is that I'm going through the telemetry logs from my cornwall flight, and I've got ~5 corrupted positions (in canada, africa, etc), all of them uploaded by your gateway.
[12:04] <G8KNN> How odd
[12:04] <craag> Having written a lot of the gateway code for habpack myself, I'm curious
[12:04] <craag> Anything unusual on your rpi setup?
[12:05] <G8KNN> no, the rpi is dedicated to lora only, nothing else running on it
[12:06] <craag> eg. from everyone else: "$$1900,49,10:05:13,50.183739,-5.802828,27714,14,1.438*5349","GOONHILLY,0x17_pi,M0EYT-BH"
[12:06] <craag> but yours: "$$1900,49,10:05:13,50.183739,-5.802828,7,1,2*e534","G8KNN"
[12:07] <G8KNN> ah yes, I remember seeing those short sentences
[12:07] <G8KNN> and wondering whether they were significant
[12:08] <craag> Are you using the TCP output or anything like that?
[12:08] <G8KNN> I don't know if it's significant, but it's possible I was using both lora receivers on separate antennas
[12:09] <G8KNN> no, not using TCP output
[12:09] <craag> Hmm ok... yeah the two receivers maybe...
[12:09] <craag> any chance you could, no rush, send me a zip of your gateway folder on there?
[12:10] <craag> I won't have a chance to look at it probably for a while, but if there is a bug it'd be good to know about it.
[12:10] <G8KNN> yes, by email?
[12:10] <craag> yes please, phil@philcrump.co.uk
[12:10] <G8KNN> OK, will do

[14:15] <craag> Nah no-one wants to go there. Newquay is where it's at ;)
[14:17] <daveake> :)
[14:17] <AndyEsser> I had a meeting at Llanbedr last year, one of the other proposed spaceport sites

[14:18] <Ian_> Would that be ex RAF St Mawgan? It's been long enough in coming. Let's hope that it all takes off successfully. The secret seems to be in mini the miniturisation of the hardware. Llandbedr is UAV stuff I guess.
[14:19] <Ian_> I noticed that in the news announcements yesterday that Reaction Engines got a caption, so that has to be good too.
[14:19] <AndyEsser> yea Llanbedr is all UAV stuff currently
[14:20] <Ian_> Old Boys Club will always be interested in keeping the ££ tightly in the fold, having discussed the split well beforehand. Horse before the electronic cart, so to speak :)

[14:26] <Ian_> No, but would love to. I did a trade day with my father back in 1960 and collected so many brochures that it was silly. Lots of inspiration for a young lad.
[14:26] <craag> Having had some recent insight into the workings of a large company - every internal process is designed to minimise risk.
[14:26] <AndyEsser> for the record, this is not me moaning that no-one wanted to speak to me about my company - this was an observation of the interactions between the large aerospace companies and the well established but smaller MRO's (typically)
[14:26] <AndyEsser> craag: I fully understand that
[14:27] <AndyEsser> but still
[14:28] <AndyEsser> Another Aerospace meeting at Airbus in Hawarden earlier in the year - and Airbus very very proud of themselves for the savings they'd made for themselves by the paint on the aircraft being 0.5mm thinner
[14:28] <craag> Yeah I'm speaking from the pov of working on a small and risky project tangentially involved with them, it was like getting your back heel caught in tar every time :P
[14:28] <AndyEsser> great, a good saving, etc - but not what I'd call 'innovative'
[14:28] <Ian_> I guess that some of the risks can turn out into the 10's of £Ms on a bad day, so it's sort of understandable, but does tend to engender a closed shop attitude.
[14:29] <AndyEsser> my current client is quite good - they're a large company 100,000's of employees worldwide - and revenue in the $bn's
[14:29] <AndyEsser> but my little part of the team is basically treated like a startup, left to our own devices and pretty much unlimited funding :)
[14:30] <Ian_> I remember when they started repainting the Victor bomber with a polyeurethane paint. The jockeys weren't too happy as it added several tonnes to the airframe and of course made it a little less responsive.
[14:30] <craag> proper skunkworks style :)
[14:30] <AndyEsser> craag: except far less 'sexy'
[14:30] <Ian_> To that point I thought about paint as just being a weightless colour . . . :)
[14:30] <AndyEsser> it's cloud infrastructure - not rockets :P
[14:31] <daveake> So many things I would have done
[14:31] <daveake> But clouds got in my way
[14:31] <AndyEsser> bloody clouds
[14:31] <Ian_> Andy, you must be considered a speculative crop . . .
[14:31] <daveake> I married one :)
[14:31] <AndyEsser> you married a cloud?
[14:31] <daveake> yup
[14:31] <daveake> Maiden name
[14:31] <AndyEsser> Ah!
[14:32] <AndyEsser> Ian_: the project will pay huge dividends for the company, yes
[14:32] <Ian_> Not a Scottish one :)
[14:32] <AndyEsser> given the company spends $m's/year on cloud providers - and what we're working on will help reduce that
[14:33] <Ian_> Hopefully lots of bread and butter for your table too; not mentioning boys toys. Good that you are thriving well.

[15:05] <jst> Hi, I've some issues with dl-fldigi and the habitat server. dl-fldigi seems do decode my packages (Telemetry and ssdv) and also shows them in the upper area of the gui. But their are not visible on the map or in the parser logtail. But the ssdv packages are visible online. Any idea (the callsign is UGS434)
[15:06] <fsphil> jst: ensure dl-fldigi has a callsign and location filled in, and is in online mode
[15:07] <craag> It might be giving you an error message in the bar at the very bottom of dl-fldigi

[15:12] <jst> It might be a problem with the firewall here (i'm at a school) but it work previously. Which port is used for the upload?
[15:13] <daveake> It's a http packet on port 80

[15:13] <jst> That should be ok with the firewall
[15:14] <daveake> I've heard of other schools where the upload has been blocked
