[00:04] <Ian_> rd55a, not in the last 24 hours it seems, please repeat your question
[00:04] <rd55a> I've been trying to setup my UBlox8 MAX GPS (Uputronics) on my Raspberry Pi
[00:04] <rd55a> And for whatever reason, when I run i2cdetect -y 1 the module only shows up sometimes
[00:05] <rd55a> And I'm incredibly confused. No idea what could be causing it
[00:05] <rd55a> https://gyazo.com/26cf77532c4b3ef366079e0bb832aa15
[00:05] <rd55a> Screenshot for reference
[00:05] <rd55a> Was wondering if any of y'all have encountered similar issues
[00:10] <Ian_> Can't help I'm afraid. Don't suppose that it has anything to do with : I2C is connected but uses clock stretching. https://pinout.xyz/pinout/uputronics_gps_expansion_board https://pinout.xyz/pinout/i2c
[00:11] <rd55a> Ohhh it uses clock stretching?
[00:11] <rd55a> I remember hearing something about the raspberry pi not supporting it
[00:16] <Ian_> The Uputronics GPS expansion board is for the RPi, so I would expect it to work. Nothing to do with pullup resistors internal or otherwise screwing with the integrity of the da connection?
[00:18] <Ian_> the connection?

[00:33] <daveake> For when rd55a comes back .... PITS uses a software i2c implementation to avoid the clock-stretching issue. We didn't use the standard i2c bus at all so the UBlox won't appear on that, ever, so I don't understand the comment about "sometimes appears". btw I don't know if it's been implemented yet but at some stage Raspbian did/will include a kernel software i2c implementation.
[00:37] <rd55a> Ahhh interesting
[00:37] <rd55a> Good to know

[09:46] Nick change: Mike-SA2 -> Mike-SA6BSS
[09:47] <fabhab> I have obtained permission to launch from the Buckinhamshire Railway Center overflow carpark.
[09:48] <fabhab> The CAA gave permission with the constraint that the predicted direction is between SW to NE clockwise
[09:48] <fabhab> is that the normal range of consent?
[09:48] <fabhab> I can see that that means it doesnt fly into london or luton.
[09:49] <fabhab> I can see that that means it doesnt fly into london or luton. :(
[09:50] <fabhab> I have run the predictor and the contrainst is never valid :(
[09:50] <fabhab> for the day available to predict.
[09:51] <fabhab> I have negotiated 4 possible days with the senior management team at school fro the trip but now I despair of getting it done...
[09:54] <fabhab> Does the CAA ever agree to a change of launch site?
[09:56] <fabhab> I am also worried about rocking up with minibus full of teenage girls to a site for which I have not obtained the landowner's permission or is there a kind of site from which it is ok to launch?
[09:58] <fabhab> CAA have agreed to location: 51.864097,-0.931908 any day 23/6 to 7/7 with said constraint.
[09:59] <fabhab> but I only can do 23/24 or 30/1. Possibly could negotiate 7/7 with SMT..

[18:49] <habby> Also, if Im transmitting LoRa and want to add a RTTY antenna to transmit, too, will they interfere with each other? Will I need to keep the antennae apart by a certain distance?
[18:49] <PE2BZ> HI Habby. You do not seem to have to ask ¨please approve¨ and you payload doc, so admins could still assume you are testing
[18:50] <habby> Ok, Ill try that. Thanks!
[18:50] <PE2BZ> And rtty and lora, on different frequencies ?
[18:50] <habby> Yes ones on 434.36 and other is on 434.25
[18:52] <PE2BZ> I use 1/4 wave solid wires for TX antenna and keep them about 1/4 wave (16 cm) apart. Did not run into trouble with that

[18:57] <habby> I think so, yes.
[18:57] <PE2BZ> so you read the gps with 9600 baud and at the same time control the transmitter ? No way....

[18:59] <PE2BZ> I guess that could work. But doesn´t the GPS have I2C output also ?

[19:31] <habby> So Ive got LoRa and GPS set up on the tracker and they are working fine (although I had to move the GPS module away from the Pi0 as PSU was interfering with the GPS). Id like to add Ntx2b to the setup as Ive built the circuit for an Arduino and its working sending a test sentence. If I flip the ntx2b onto the Pi0 and am running pits for LoRa then Im worried Ill interfere with the pits software. I understand what you mean
[19:32] <daveake> You'd need to modify the code, and that won't be pretty
[19:33] <habby> Im probably better off sticking with LoRa for Tuesdays flight(!)
[19:33] <daveake> Yup
[19:33] <habby> Hows the LoRa network up north?
[19:34] <daveake> Dunno. But that only kicks in during the flight; I'm sure you know you need to do the launch and landing
[19:35] <habby> Still thinking about just sticking the NTX2B in there on the Arduino nano and broadcasting a warble for the directional antenna in case we dont make it across to landing zone in time...
[19:35] <daveake> So long as you can get to the landing area before the flight does, then the network isn't relevant
[19:35] <habby> M62 at 8am is worrying me!
[19:38] <habby> Did you fly your lightweight tracker?
[19:38] <daveake> nope
[19:39] <habby> Ah
[19:40] <habby> Might try it without the 360 camera for this flight then...(!)
[19:41] <daveake> The chip antenna isn't the best; adding a camera (cameras have been known to interfere with gps receivers) doesn't sound like a good plan to me.
[19:44] <habby> PiCam will be a decent distance away as using a poly box rather than picase. 360 camera would be a decent distance away, too.
[19:45] <daveake> Picam is less of an issue if it's used for stills
[19:45] <habby> Yes, it would be.
[19:47] <habby> 360 cam didnt get in the way on last flight (that landed in Lough Erne in NI) but that wasnt a chip antenna. Ill tear it tomorrow.

[19:49] <habby> Would you recommend I add radials to your design or stick with single wire antenna?
[19:50] <daveake> Up to you; more signal, but it'll happily get received without
[19:52] <habby> OK, Ill stick with it as it is. I like the simplicity and can use preamp to get a boost.
