[09:01] <PE2BZ> daveake good morning. My power meter did arrive last weekend. Keep in mind that the highes power which can be displayed is -5 dBm so for 100 mW you need to add at least 25 dB attenuator. I tried the meter with ATV transmitter which has 12 mW output and required 20 dB attenuator because I can find no way to have it displayed positive dBm values.

[09:31] <pb0ahx> _Jordan, on wat time ?

[09:35] <_Jordan> Anyways, the reason I am here is to try and investigate the strange instances of HDSDR failing to work
[09:38] <Darkside> try something that isn't HDSDR?
[09:38] <Darkside> on windows I generally use SDR Console v3
[09:38] <Darkside> others use SDR#
[09:38] <_Jordan> Trying to use SDR sharp, however I cant figure it out lol
[09:39] <PE2BZ> You might need Teamviewer and some guidance ?
[09:39] <_Jordan> I Don't really trust remote desktops lol
[09:39] <Darkside> surely theres enough guides out there for these programs
[09:40] <Darkside> SDR# is very widely used
[09:40] <_Jordan> Thats not why i'm here, honestly I havent put the effort into getting it working, I came here to investigate HDSDR as its like a standardized package for the pisky
[09:41] <Darkside> really?
[09:41] <Darkside> i find the interface a bit crap
[09:41] <Darkside> much prefer SDR Console under windows
[09:41] <_Jordan> For what I use it for, it does just the job haha
[09:42] <AndyEsser> _Jordan: clearly not :P
[09:42] <_Jordan> I part blame my nievety and my anxiety for change, but I thought that it would worth bringing up here because I don't want it happening to anybody else.
[09:43] <_Jordan> Well AndyEsser 99% of the time.
[09:43] <AndyEsser> can you elaborate on "HDSDR failing to work"
[09:43] <AndyEsser> _Jordan: for the record I was being facetious, I'm rarely one to jump on the "drop what you've chosen and use my choice" before ruling out other options :P
[09:43] <_Jordan> RTL device plugged in, VAC enabled, the correct input selected, and load it up and its completely blank
[09:44] <AndyEsser> so output from HDSDR -> VAC -> fldigi?
[09:44] <_Jordan> Yeah
[09:44] <AndyEsser> or HDSDR is blank?
[09:45] <_Jordan> HDSDR is blank
[09:45] <Darkside> how about a few screenshots
[09:45] <AndyEsser> if HDSDR is blank then it's a dongle issue, or chosen device issue
[09:45] <daveake> If HDSDR is blank it has nothing to do with VAC
[09:45] <AndyEsser> as Darkside said, can you show us some screenshots?

[09:46] <PE2BZ> So, to check, Zadig is installed and so is the RTL driver ? And the ExtIO_rtl2832.dll is in the folder and selected when starting hdsdr ?
[09:46] <daveake> this ^
[09:47] <_Jordan> okay one sec
[09:49] <_Jordan> https://imgur.com/a/TNpSe
[09:49] <_Jordan> it must be noted that I am not at this machine right now, but this has happened to me before and I have not come up with a working fix
[09:50] <_Jordan> PE2BZ Yes I checked all this when it happened to me, and I set up that laptop so I'm sure that the dll is in that folder.
[09:51] <PE2BZ> 434.800 are those ¨signals¨ on the screen
[09:52] <PE2BZ> I would prefer the printscreen and then imgur ;-)
[09:54] <_Jordan> Doesn't matter that the freq is wrong, should still see "something" on the output (what ever you calll the output)
[09:55] <PE2BZ> That´s what I am asking. On 434.800 it looks like I see signals (small white blocks) which means it does receive something
[09:56] <_Jordan> PE2BZ on the image I sent you? I can't see anything?
[09:57] <daveake> Looks like 2 dots in the upper waterfall
[09:57] <_Jordan> possibly specs on a screen
[09:58] <PE2BZ> at the right side of the white cross, above the 434.800 MHz I think I see 2 white block in the screen, which could be remote control signals or something like that. On the other hand, some noise would be expected
[09:58] <_Jordan> hard to tel
[09:58] <_Jordan> Thats the word I was after "noise", theres no noise
[09:58] <PE2BZ> USB 3 port for the dongle or USB 2 ?
[09:58] <_Jordan> 2
[09:59] <PE2BZ> Did this dongle ever work on this laptop, with any kind of software ?
[09:59] <_Jordan> Probably worth mentioning that my colleague in the field booted up the recovery laptop and we are recieving just fine, balloon should be up soon, maybe an issue for another day?
[10:01] <PE2BZ> I don´t mind, I can receive and troubleshoot at the same time. It´s your call ;-)
[10:01] <_Jordan> Thing for me is, I'm back at HQ while my colleague is having the issue in the field.
[10:02] <PE2BZ> If it suits you better we can do this another time.
[10:03] <_Jordan> Okay yeah, pardon my query for now, we can sort it out when I got some free time :)

[13:03] <PE2BZ> Did you measure or calculate for the 4 gram free lift ?
[13:03] <Mike-SA6BSS> messure
[13:05] <Mike-SA6BSS> I weigh the total payload weight and ad 4gram, takes som nuts and and put together so it weighs 15.5 + 4 = 19,5 fill the balloon until it just baerly rises hangs in the air if i pull it down

[13:08] <Mike-SA6BSS> what hose?
[13:08] <PE2BZ> You don´t have a tube between your gas cillinder and the balloon ?
[13:08] <Mike-SA6BSS> no , jut a nozzle

[14:34] <SpeedEvil> Did you try the integrated random walk?
[14:34] <SpeedEvil> As fan noise shouldn't do much tot hat - modulo aliasing
[14:35] <Laurenceb> yeah it doesnt look too bad
[14:35] <Laurenceb> but its hard to say what real world walk is due to the effect of misalignment
[14:35] <Laurenceb> and where G is actually pointing

[14:37] <Laurenceb> padded box makes the accel look sane
[14:37] <SpeedEvil> Laurenceb: I guess walk about assumed best fit vector is the answer
[14:38] <Laurenceb> yeah I tried that, but its not a very good real world test
[14:38] <SpeedEvil> There is still that bump at ~25hz
[14:38] <SpeedEvil> but lots better
[14:39] <SpeedEvil> Without that, it looks pretty much to spec to 100hz.
[14:39] <SpeedEvil> 10
[14:40] <SpeedEvil> Why isn't it a good real world test?
[14:40] <SpeedEvil> I mean - of the accel noise limits in a best case situation.
[14:41] <SpeedEvil> Clearly pointing matters.
[14:46] <Laurenceb> I guess it is a test of best case accel, yeah
[14:48] <SpeedEvil> I'm unsure if there is a tractable way to go directly from noise in all three sensors to best case estimate without putting it through a kalman or similar
[14:48] <SpeedEvil> I suppose any estimate would almost be one step of a kalman
[14:48] <SpeedEvil> In frequency space though
[14:56] <Laurenceb> 80cm max drift over 20s
[14:56] <Laurenceb> just taking the average off
[14:57] <Laurenceb> looks like there is a warm up effect tho
[14:57] <SpeedEvil> Interesting
[14:57] <Laurenceb> almost all the drift is due to very slow offset changes
[14:58] <Laurenceb> if I take a 3rd order polynomial out over 30s, it goes down to 2mm drift
[14:58] <SpeedEvil> that is surprisingly good.
[14:58] <SpeedEvil> Thoguh I wonder about overfitting
