[11:25] <gurlavie__> Hi, I have a bit of a basic question, sorry if it is too trivial, For my ILHAB_L1 flight, does he tracker has a way to mark the predicted burst altitude ?
[11:27] <gurlavie__> I mean, I am doing the calculations with the burst calculator, and then the rout predict with the predictor. The tracker will only predict the landing AFTER the burst ? and even then, its is a "generic" descent ?

[12:19] <Ian_> It can be a regular thing, but fortuitously affects other transmissions in the summer as fine weather and high pressure create radio reflective zones.
[12:20] <Micke-sa6bss> but you losing it after launch usuly means a bad antenna connecor or something

[15:27] <SNBlair> So is the main thing to prove the basics are working - i.e. decoding means the basic components are all functioning and then trust that the signal will be adequate during the actual flight. Ground testing seems very problematic. I was planning to move to even greater range after this 'mid' range test.
[15:28] janeUbuntu (~jane@2001:3c8:c103:a001::19) joined #highaltitude.
[15:28] <Ian_> It might be better not tilted towards you. Think of the radiation pattern of your RX as a nominal 45% up and maybe your package you could turn upside down so that it's also 45% up. As it would be vehicle to vehicle. In flight the 45% up of the Ground stn and the 45% down (all nominal) work to advantage.
[15:29] <Ian_> Directly above is a big null.
[15:30] <Ian_> Colinear antennas flatten the radiation pattern a bit. Nothing to get concerned about though.
[15:30] <junderwood> I would be very nervous if you don't get a good decode at 1 km with clear LOS.
[15:31] <Ian_> Turning the package upside down will probably not help the GPS though.
[15:31] <junderwood> You can usually see a non-decodable signal at 1 km without an antenna
[15:31] <SpeedEvil> reporting the last GPS position may be of use, if you lose GPS

[15:33] <PE2BZ> SNBlair you reported unsuccesful decoding earlier this week, this was at less distance as you are now ?
[15:33] <SNBlair> My system uses raspberry pi (pits) with onboard gps. No secondary gps sys. Wht happens if I lose signal on the day? How likely is it that other folks receive my signal and upload gps co-ords?
[15:33] <Ian_> Ah, and you asked for pictures Ben and then reminded again this morning !

[19:57] <TT7> SNBlair: you mentioned using Asus EEE. did you have the same problem while running the decoding on something else as well?
[19:58] <TT7> I experienced something similar on my EEE which, I think, was due to the notebook being simply too slow
[19:59] <TT7> try running only SDR# and dl-fldigi
[20:00] <TT7> in SDR# lower the FFT resolution to something like 1024-2048 (in FFT Display settings)
[20:02] OLHZN (~tcarissim@rrcs-24-105-183-114.nys.biz.rr.com) left irc: Read error: Connection reset by peer
[20:03] <TT7> and when the decoding becomes garbled just stop SDR# (with the STOP button at the top) and start it again
[20:04] <TT7> this approach did it for me, but frankly the EEE is just too crap of hardware for this sort of thing
[20:07] <TT7> well, hopefully he reads the logs..
