[13:03] <Laurenceb_> https://imagebin.ca/v/3CioxmkTkTi9
[13:03] <Laurenceb_> thats a prototype I made for rockoon experiments
[13:03] <Laurenceb_> uses nylon to temporarily deflect the exhaust to get some spin
[13:04] <Laurenceb_> unfortunately the nylon basically sublimes about 8 times too quickly to get the right spin rate
[13:04] <Laurenceb_> so I need a better material, but I'm kind of out of ideas

[20:25] <DoYouKnow> http://pastebin.com/NQk7uh5k
[20:25] <DoYouKnow> some interesting wifis in the sky
[20:28] <DoYouKnow> updated: http://pastebin.com/Lfy5L11Q (forgot something)
[20:28] <DoYouKnow> the 2nd one is wifi aboard the ISS, I think
[20:28] <DoYouKnow> with the <cloaked> ssid
[20:28] <SpeedEvil> DoYouKnow: you're fucking insane.
[20:29] <SpeedEvil> And need punched a lot more.
[20:29] <SpeedEvil> Apologies.
[20:29] <DoYouKnow> what did I do?
[20:29] <SpeedEvil> Compute the signal strength of a hypothetical signal source required to be recieved on the ground with your reciever with any reasonable antenna aboard ISS.
[20:30] <DoYouKnow> the wifis are 30 dBm or so, I've seen omni transmitters output that amount
[20:30] <DoYouKnow> in Low earth orbit
[20:31] <SpeedEvil> You have repeatedly failed to understand or take into account reasonable path losses and signal strengths while claiming to recieve signals from a cantenna that are only really recievable by a 34m dish and not even checking that the source is up.
[20:31] <DoYouKnow> maybe not at s-band
[20:31] <DoYouKnow> I did check that the source was up
[20:33] <garit> Iss will be visible for about 20 seconds or about that
[20:34] <SpeedEvil> To clarify - your average 30mW router gets 300m on a good day to an omni antenna, assuming line of sight. ISS is 400km up, 1333 times as far away. In order for an omni antenna transmitter to be recievable enough to resolve the SSID, you need of the order of 1333^2*30mW. This is - for a start - considerably over the power of the space station solar panels.
[20:34] <DoYouKnow> I get way more than 300m in the receive direction
[20:34] stryx` (~stryx@unaffiliated/stryx/x-3871776) left irc: Ping timeout: 255 seconds
[20:34] <DoYouKnow> I get about 0.3 miles
[20:34] <DoYouKnow> at ground level
[20:34] <DoYouKnow> but not at sky level
[20:35] <DoYouKnow> that should be much better
[20:35] <Vaizki> DoYouKnow: would I be correct in estimating that you are on about 6 different irc channels that have to do with SDR etc and that in each and every one people keep telling you that these signals are not real?
[20:36] <Vaizki> my estimate is based on myself being on 3 of the,
[20:36] <SpeedEvil> He was earlier detecting gravitational waves with a pezio disk.
[20:36] <Vaizki> that's a nobel right there that is
[20:36] <Vaizki> boom yeah
[20:38] <DoYouKnow> which was that one, SpeedEvil ?
[20:38] <DoYouKnow> the one with the readouts?
[20:38] <garit> SpeedEvil: ahahah =)

[20:40] <DoYouKnow> yeah, you can get those things stuck into some pretty intense frustrated states with the right inputs
[20:40] <DoYouKnow> almost like superconducting magnets or something

[21:07] <SpeedEvil> garit: the bkfa says 60m is fine anywhere
[21:07] <garit> It does say about height of 60m, though
[21:08] <SpeedEvil> Sorry - I diddn't know about a better source
[21:08] <garit> but the place im interested is right under a glissade for an airport
[21:09] <garit> And planes are at 500m,which is quite close,i guess
[21:10] <SpeedEvil> There are things which are unambiguously legal, but a bad idea.
[21:10] <SpeedEvil> For example, releasing 10000 2m balloons just next to an airport.
[21:11] <SpeedEvil> Calling the airport might be a good plan.
[21:11] <SpeedEvil> Even if there is no real danger, you can make them thing there is danger, as tehy don't know you're going to stick to 60m
[21:13] <garit> eh,i guess its a bad idea anyway
