[01:34] <ogmaster> hey guys
[01:34] <ogmaster> need some advice
[01:34] <SpeedEvil> Wear sunscreen, be good to your knees.
[01:35] <ogmaster> I have an NTX2B 434MHz transmitter, but i am not sure if it works. (Borrowing it from a friend)
[01:36] john51 (~john@15255.s.t4vps.eu) joined #highaltitude.
[01:36] <ogmaster> is there any way i can tell using a circuit?
[01:36] <ogmaster> without trying to test it on dl-fldigi
[01:37] <ogmaster> I'm new to this stuff and would love some support
[01:37] <Ian_> Alas, most of us are about in bed.
[01:38] <Ian_> Do you have an Amateur Radio receiver 434MHz?
[01:38] <ogmaster> Yaesu TF- 790 R
[01:38] <Ian_> Icom user :p
[01:38] <ogmaster> I borrowed all this equipment from a friend, so i am sorry if i sound dumb
[01:39] <ogmaster> he can't help me as he's on a trip
[01:39] <Ian_> OK so what is the NTX2B connected to. The rx needs to be mode USB (or LSB if you want to be awkward) :)
[01:39] DL7AD (~sven@p4FD420D0.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) joined #highaltitude.
[01:40] <ogmaster> i followed the tutorial on ukhas, i am connecting it to an Arduino
[01:40] <ogmaster> however it's an ADK Mega, not the one used in to tutorial
[01:40] <ogmaster> but that shouldn't matter much
[01:40] <Ian_> Do you have an Arduino . . . Good Standby
[01:41] <ogmaster> Yes i have an arduino
[01:41] DL7AD1 (~sven@p4FD420AC.dip0.t-ipconnect.de) left irc: Ping timeout: 260 seconds
[01:42] <ogmaster> basically i am trying to find out what i am doing wrong. Is it my configurations on dl-fldigi when i do the tutorial, or is it the NTX2B not working.
[01:42] <Ian_> https://ukhas.org.uk/guides:linkingarduinotontx2
[01:42] <ogmaster> this is the one, yes
[01:44] <ogmaster> I built the circuit, compiled and uploaded the code.
[01:44] <ogmaster> the Yaesu doesn't pick up any signal i think. It doesnt make any signal noises before u connect it
[01:44] <ogmaster> I*
[01:44] <ogmaster> to my laptop.
[01:45] <Ian_> That should give you a bit of a head start. OK the line that is keying the NTX2B, if you were to lift it and key a LED instead then you would know that you are keying it because the LED will flash.
[01:46] <ogmaster> Ah so you want me to test the circuit first. Makes sense.
[01:47] <ogmaster> And if the LED doesn't light then it's a circuit issue
[01:47] <ogmaster> but what if it does flash?
[01:47] <ogmaster> what then?
[01:47] <Ian_> then at least you know that you have the right pin . . . Yes, no point in looking for a signal that isn't there
[01:47] <ogmaster> so the NTXB2 is busted?
[01:48] <ogmaster> (if the led flashes, i mean)
[01:49] <ogmaster> Another dumb question, I have two audio jacks in my laptop.
[01:49] <ogmaster> one for headphones and one for mic
[01:50] <ogmaster> i plugged the yaesu in the mic one
[01:50] <ogmaster> since it made sense since it's input
[01:50] <ogmaster> i could be wrong, i just want to be 100% sure
[01:50] <Ian_> Once you have determined that you have the right pin, then use it to key the NTX2B using the test 1 code. It should give you constant reversals which you can hopefully find with the radio, by sweeping from some several kHz below the frequency to several kHz above it and hope to intercept the signal. At this point you aren't interested in the PC, lets identify a signal keying the NTX2b
[01:51] <ogmaster> yes sir, sorry for thinking ahead
[01:51] <ogmaster> i'll do that
[01:51] <Ian_> Yes, you are surely in danger of outrunning my thought process as well as your own.
[01:52] <ogmaster> I've been trying to get it work since 6:00 PM
[01:52] <ogmaster> so i am a bit tired, my bad.
[01:52] <ogmaster> i just came across this irc chat
[01:52] <ogmaster> (kind of late)
[01:53] <Ian_> 6pm where. it's 0150 here now. I guess that you are USA based?
[01:53] <ogmaster> no, i meant since 6:00 PM
[01:53] <ogmaster> uk time
[01:53] <ogmaster> i am in london
[01:53] <adamgreig> this chat is usually a bit more active uk evening time
[01:54] <Ian_> Ah, OK at this time of night it's usually US guys. It certainly is Adam,
[01:54] <ogmaster> i am sure it is, i just came across it 15 mins ago
[01:54] <adamgreig> maybe take a photograph of your circuit set up (including the ntx2b and everything else) so it's easy to see what connections you have and so forth
[01:54] kst123 (~quassel@74.40.62.85) joined #highaltitude.
[01:54] <adamgreig> sometimes it makes it clear what's wrong

[01:55] <ogmaster> unfortunately i dont have it on me now.
[01:56] <ogmaster> I really appreciate your help guys. You seem very friendly.
[01:56] <adamgreig> probably easiest to get help when you have the kit in front of you, worth a try tomorrow
[01:57] <ogmaster> yeah i probably will, just wanted to see if this irc chat was active or not.
[01:57] <ogmaster> and by the looks of it you guys seem great
[01:57] <ogmaster> considering you're probably half asleep
[01:57] <Ian_> It's best just to watch it. It has it's quiet periods of course, but is pretty active as a rule.
[01:58] <ogmaster> but now i know what to do when i wake up tomorrow. put an led, see if it flashes.
[01:58] <ogmaster> thank you Ian_
[01:58] <ogmaster> and adamgreig
[01:59] <ogmaster> can i post pictures on here?
[01:59] <ogmaster> i think i'll have to upload it on an uploading site
[01:59] <ogmaster> and link it on here
[01:59] <Ian_> That link I gave you, is good. The second part will get you a genuine RTTY signal working (hopefully) and at least you will know where to look on the radio
[02:00] <Ian_> imagur.com I think for pictures and pastebin.com (I'll check that) for code
[02:00] <ogmaster> perfect. I'll leave you guys in peace... for now ;) :D Hopefully i see you guys tomorrow!
[02:01] <Ian_> imgur.com (there is always something dodgy for a mistype)
[02:01] <Ian_> Both are free and you don't need to sign up.
[02:01] <ogmaster> yes i checked them out, thank you!

[02:02] <Ian_> I'm away tomorrow, but when it gets to dl_fldigi others are more appropriate than I
[02:04] <Ian_> Interfacing between the FT790 and the laptop is best done with an interface of some sort. Varying from a couple of resistors for level matching and capacitors for DC blocking to something more exotic.
[02:05] <Ian_> http://www.echoireland.com/Interface/PTT_to_Computer_Information.htm The top bit of circuit 2 essentially.
[02:06] <Ian_> The NTX2B will probably not require an antenna for testing a couple of metres away. Not too close or you will overload the rx.
[02:07] <Ian_> Ahhh, gone already. Gnite adamgrieg

[13:36] <daveake> there we go :)
[13:36] <Upu> BUZZ is miles out 434.315
[13:37] <Upu> Not going on map
[13:37] <Upu> ignore me
[13:37] <Upu> fitlerszzzz
[13:38] <daveake> hah

[13:40] <jakeio> Goooood!

[13:42] <daveake> jakeio burst alt 20km ?
[13:44] <daveake> I think I should get going. Not a great signal here anyway.
[13:44] <AndyEsser> need HAB Plane
[13:44] <daveake> Yeah, get a move on with that :)
[13:44] <AndyEsser> sorry
[13:45] <AndyEsser> haven't flown since december :(
[13:45] <Upu> yeah its doing 51mph which is 1 mph faster than your Shogun can go without falling apart
[13:45] <AndyEsser> :P
[13:46] <daveake> Lol true
[13:47] <fsphil> needs some duct tape
[13:49] <daveake> More
[13:50] <fsphil> hah
[13:50] <fsphil> oh dear
[13:50] <fsphil> actually my own car's fuel line is held together with duct tape
[13:51] <Geoff-G8DHE> yEA MICROBIT decoded
[13:51] <jakeio> daveake yup, probs less as ascent so fast.
[13:51] Action: AndyEsser is happy with his hire car being all in one piece
[13:51] <fsphil> I'd love to hire an electric car for a while
[13:52] <fsphil> but it would probably spoil me
[13:52] <AndyEsser> there's a Tesla Model S that parks in the car park here
[13:52] <AndyEsser> I always drool when I see it
[13:52] <fsphil> I got to sit in a tesla a few years ago. lovely cars
[13:53] <AndyEsser> I was invited to a Tesla event the other month when I was down in Bristol
[13:53] <AndyEsser> but didn't have time to go :(
[13:53] <fsphil> aww
[13:54] <gonzo_> bits of dog food tin and rifle brass holds my cars together
[13:54] <fsphil> a short range model would be nice, for all the distance I go
[13:54] <SpeedEvil> I would quite like a self-driving tesla, that does 0-60 in about 10 seconds, and looks deeply boring, and costs a small fraction of the S.
[13:54] <AndyEsser> fsphil: Model 3 when it comes out
[13:54] <SpeedEvil> yeah
[13:55] <AndyEsser> I'm very tempted to pre-order a Model 3
[13:55] <AndyEsser> there's a supercharger not too far from me as well :)
[13:55] <fsphil> how much are they going for?
[13:55] <AndyEsser> $30,000 - an actual UK price hasn't been released yet I don't think
[13:55] <SpeedEvil> I have noted before that at the power/weight, it can for short periods work just fine as a quadcopter
[13:55] <gonzo_> I'd need a tow bar for the big generaor I'd be towing
[13:55] <fsphil> 215 mile range, that's still overkill for me :)
[13:56] <fsphil> 35000 USD now
[13:56] <fsphil> £1000 for just reserving one
[13:56] <fsphil> yeah I'll pass
[13:56] <gonzo_> that was about the range of my old car on LPG. Which made it touch and go that I could get up to the folks place in shropshire.
[13:57] <gonzo_> especially when the petrol pump failed on xmas day. I was literally on fumes when I limped in
[13:57] <fsphil> I hadn't driven further than 40km before, until recently in australia. which is a big place
[13:58] <gonzo_> max I've done in one sitting is 600miles. Not out of choice
[13:58] <fsphil> yeah this was about that. 1000km
[13:58] <fsphil> well, 500km there and back
[13:58] <AndyEsser> stop exaggerating :P
[13:59] <fsphil> it was 20,000km easily, all uphill </trump logic>
[13:59] <AndyEsser> bigly
[13:59] <fsphil> gonna be HUGE
[13:59] <AndyEsser> and we'll make the asians do the driving
[13:59] <gonzo_> puts on yorkshire accent, 'corse, we 'ad it tough
[14:00] <fsphil> was a nice drive. alarming number of dead kangaroos by the road side
[14:00] <AndyEsser> we had to drive with only 1 wheel!
[14:00] <gonzo_> finally getting greens, first since the antennas went back up
[14:01] <gonzo_> the system is not great though. may hack a habamp in to the PA
[14:02] <AndyEsser> I want a habamp, but also the option to bypass it easily enough
[14:02] <AndyEsser> I need some of your magic RF relays :P
[14:02] <gonzo_> I think john brought up all the good ones at the batc do, before we got to the table
[14:03] <AndyEsser> damn him
[14:04] <gonzo_> I have a linear amp with built in lna, but that died. I put a pga103 lna in, but that had so much gain and high o/p that it could cause the RF switching to trip, when there was a local strong sig
[14:04] <gonzo_> nit ideal
