[15:57] <RocketBoy> sorta dips where you would expect (except the extra one)
[15:57] <michal_f> I'll plays some more...
[15:58] <daveake> michal_f: that's correct. I have an older one with 2 separate wires and the instructions explained to cross them.

[15:59] <RocketBoy> ithat didnt come with a beehive did it?
[16:00] <daveake> Nope
[16:00] <RocketBoy> my one is old too and didnt
[16:00] <daveake> Oh sorry answered the wrong question :-)
[16:00] <daveake> Yes had the variable cap thing
[16:01] <RocketBoy> I upgraded it with 300 ohm feeded (cos it came with 2 seperate wires) but:
[16:02] <daveake> Yeah mine had 2 wires. Worth replacing with feeder?
[16:02] <daveake> The cap never seemed to make much difference when receiving
[16:02] <RocketBoy> someone in another group commented abut a 12ele Moonraker ZL special:
[16:02] <RocketBoy> The crossed transmission line between the two folded elements is a piece of 300 ohm ribbon..... I tried this but with horrible results.... the pic shows two separate cross wires..... so two lengths of 1.5mm silver plated copper (heatshrink tubing used at the crossover points) were utilised ..... instant improvement but SWR still above 2-1
[16:03] <RocketBoy> also RG58 trimmed but very little effect...... beehive trimmer arced over at 20w ! and this antenna is rated at 500W !!! ???
[16:03] <daveake> Lol
[16:05] <RocketBoy> Moonraker dont have a good reputation in that group (Old Radio Hams)
[16:10] <RocketBoy> BBL
[16:10] <michal_f> I dosconnected that line between folded elems and it dips down at 434mhz
[16:11] <michal_f> but 4db higher
[16:11] <michal_f> right... I need to cook dinner. bbl, thanks

[16:50] <Ian_> PE2BZ the ZL-Special "Manual" is a single sided sheet of A4 paper. The beehive capacitor isn't very well portrayed, in fact looks a bit like an ink splot on the paper! That is for matching but used to be (on the 2m version at least) a short length (stub; prune to tune) of RG58 from the radiator feed point. A lot more reliable than a beehive trimmer for transmitting. Circa twenty years ago and still sat at the bottom of the gard
[16:51] <Ian_> The 300 ohm ribbon cable is for phasing of the driven reflector and is crossed. I would imagine that the results would be more consistent than with two lengths of wire.
[16:51] <hyde00001> so... looking to persuade a Pi to decode RTTY via DL-FLDIGI.... I assume the (like on my Mac) i need an SDR package... which one do people prefer? Gqrx? Other?
[16:52] <Ian_> I'm an expert - the matching stub had no hole to come out of so I cut one. Only to be told I should have coiled it up inside the black circular box.
[16:52] <PE2BZ> Ian_ In my memory the HB9CV appeared with it´s capacitor....
[16:53] <Ian_> Similarly there are no holes for the ribbon cable - cut them yourself.
[16:53] <PE2BZ> Would be the best to keep it in the box.... Or crimp the end of the coax
[16:54] <Ian_> Yes and the HB9CV used to get a lot of flak because of the beehive trimmer. I guess that it could have used a tuning stub perhaps.
[16:54] <PE2BZ> Trying to catch a ladybug which tries to escape through my window. While it´s cloesed :-(
[16:55] <Ian_> Last week I found my instructions and the 300 ohm ribbon cable in it's little bag in the garden. When I opened the bag, I hadn't noticed that it was already open and I was cutting off the bottom. The little bag dropped out in transit up from the workshop.
[16:57] <jakeio> Apologies {^TIBS01^} I missed that, I'm in the UK using 869.850MHz LoRa.

[20:45] <jakeio> russss, I'm actually sending continuously at 5mW and at ~500mW occasionally on another band.
[20:46] <russss> yeah there is that 500mW allocation just below
[20:54] <daveake> For an uplink you (probably) don't need to tx often, so you can take advantage of that higher power
[20:54] <daveake> I don't think you're going to get much range if your 5mW uplink is using the 250kHz b/w on the lora
[20:55] <jakeio> I'm doing 500mW uplinks but I'll probably take that down from 250k bw as you suggested for Tuesday..
[20:56] <daveake> yeah
