[07:47] <AndyEsser> looks like they did one launch and no more since
[07:48] <daveake> They've done 2 or 3 I think
[07:49] <daveake> 3 if you count the one that they launched directly into a tree, then relaunched
[07:51] <mfa298> there might be one thing they can do well ...
[07:51] <mfa298> ... demonstrate how not to do a wiki
[07:51] <fsphil> hah
[07:51] <gonzo_> could that be added to the 'how not to' pages. Or would that become recursive?

[17:22] <gurlavie> thanks all for the help ! we are finalizing our "teachers" payload, for a test launch Saturday or Sunday Launch. what a ride....
[17:22] <PE2BZ> Mine starts the latest opmode used. Sometimes I have troubles with the settings and then I look at task manager and I have 3 fldigis running. I kill 2 and then all works again
[17:22] <SpacenearUS> New vehicle on the map: 03DIXON - 12https://tracker.habhub.org/#!qm=All&q=DIXON
[17:22] <PE2BZ> Enjoy the ride ;-)
[17:22] <PE2BZ> From which country ?
[17:24] <gurlavie> Israel
[17:24] <PE2BZ> A little bit out of antenna range for me ;-)
[17:25] <PE2BZ> Good luck next weekend !
[17:25] <gurlavie> indeed :) thanks !

[21:07] <Babs> Hey all - been doing my homework after my altitude went above the capacity of the int variable I was using in my code. Understand how the leading 1 in the signed int is used to indicate the sign of the variable, and because it doesn't need to be used in the unsigned int in the same way it can be used to add an extra power of two and take the capacity of it up to 65535
[21:07] jan64_ (~jan64@bjb42.neoplus.adsl.tpnet.pl) left irc: Quit: Leaving
[21:08] <adamgreig> that's right (though you won't be able to have negative altitudes any more, they'd appear as huge numbers instead)
[21:09] <Babs> i don't do any manipulation of it, so using the arduino IDE it just looks as if I redefine the int as an unsigned int and the bug is corrected
[21:09] <Babs> ?
[21:09] <adamgreig> yes
[21:09] <Babs> ok great thanks adamgreig
[21:09] <adamgreig> you could use "uint16_t" as the type (instead of "unsigned int") if you wanted to be very specific
[21:09] <adamgreig> "int" is often 32 bit, but i think on arduino it is 16 bit
[21:09] <adamgreig> uint16_t is defined to be 16 bits
[21:09] <Babs> it is 16 bit on the arduino
[21:09] <adamgreig> (and unsigned)
[21:10] <adamgreig> if you are using sprintf() to format your string for transmission, you should use %u instead of %d for the altitude
[21:10] <Babs> so i guess in this case the uint16_t and the unsigned int is equivalent
[21:10] <adamgreig> as otherwise it interprets it as signed
[21:10] <adamgreig> yes (they are probably exactly precisely equivalent; uint16_t is a typedef pointing to some default type)
[21:11] <Babs> ok great thanks
[21:14] <Vaizki> the uint16_t is a portable type definition, it will always be "at least 16 bits" and unsigned
[21:15] <Vaizki> oops sorry.. exactly 16 bits
[21:15] <adamgreig> yea
[21:15] <Vaizki> my brain is asleep
[21:15] <adamgreig> was just checking that before calling you on it :P
[21:15] <adamgreig> there's uint_least16_t
[21:16] <Vaizki> ye
[21:16] <adamgreig> and all the other weird ones like uint_fast16_t
[21:16] <Vaizki> I have used those uint_least versions but very rarely
[21:16] <adamgreig> what for?
[21:17] <Vaizki> well if I don't really care if there's extra significant bits, it's more portable?
[21:17] <adamgreig> I guess
[21:17] <Vaizki> not that you'd easily run into an architecture / compiler that doesn't have 8,16,32 wide types
[21:18] <adamgreig> yea :P
[21:18] <adamgreig> quite niche
[21:18] <Vaizki> or one that provides 12 or 24 bit wide ints :)

[21:26] <adamgreig> i also like the new initialisers

[22:09] <Babs> I take the raw altitude figure from the GPS, and then split it into the absolute part and decimal part of a km read. So, if the GPS outputs 35123, this gets stored in a int32_t, and then is broken down into an int to store the 35 part, and another int to store the 0.123 part, and then the revelant part of the sprintf is
[22:09] <Babs> %i.%03i
[22:10] <adamgreig> why
[22:10] <adamgreig> just take the raw altitude from the gps as a uint32_t and sprintf that as %i and you're done
[22:10] <adamgreig> transmitting 35123 is shorter than 35.123 anyway, and less confusing
[22:10] <adamgreig> and less memory
[22:10] <Babs> i am casting my mind back, but I think it was probably because I was doing the latitude and longitude in a similar way, and this made it all consistent
[22:11] <adamgreig> i would transmit altitude in metres directly, no comma, no kilometres, and keep it as a uint32_t from the raw gps value
[22:11] <Babs> the only other part would then be on the definition part in habhub, my string is describing altitude in km, not in m
[22:11] <adamgreig> easy to change
[22:12] <Babs> yes agreed. it would have been neat to do it the same way but you are right, is overkill in terms of complexity
[22:12] <adamgreig> it is strictly worse
[22:13] <adamgreig> you transmit more data and need more memory to get the exact same information
[22:13] <Babs> ok great thanks
