[08:52] <daey> i was reading about RF attenuators for measurement purposes. apparently a common way to tap into an RF line is by using a coupling condensator in parallel to the real load. But doesnt this net ideally only a 3db attenuation as the Condensator will be essentially a zero ohm resistor at higher frequencies?
[08:54] <daey> then again if i imagine the condensator as two metal plates which you retract from each other i can see how less energy will be transfered :/

[21:08] <amell> daveake: any news on your reschedule?
[21:08] <zyp> well, I don't think RP-SMA is going away any time soon, so I just got the adapters to make sure I never get stuck because of mismatching connectors
[21:09] <daveake> reschedule?
[21:09] <amell> You cancelled a couple of flights!

[21:12] <Vaizki> I have one of these, it's quite handy for building ad-hoc adapters.. http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/rf-connectors-kits/5462920/
[21:12] <Vaizki> but there is a separate version of that kit with RP-SMA in it.. :)

[21:14] <Vaizki> horribly expensive at RS though, I got mine for close to half that price
[21:15] <daveake> I've put all mine in a compartment tray, which a) means I know what I have, and b) means I know what I need to buy :p
[21:15] <Vaizki> it's made by Shining RF
[21:17] <Vaizki> actually I lied.. my kit also has F-connectors and more bits anyway.. seems to be Shining AK-40
[21:18] <amell> Right now I have n type to pl203 to Bnc female to Bnc male and lastly Bnc female to SMA
[21:18] <amell> My master plan, foiled by the Chinese was to cut the crap and go N type to SMA
[21:18] <daveake> N to SMA exists
[21:19] <amell> I'm sure it does. That's what I ordered

[21:19] <Vaizki> N to SMA is very common indeed :)

[21:37] <amell> Sufficient. My rtl stick is 78ppm
[21:38] <Vaizki> but my SDRPlay seems better than that, I'd say maybe a 6ppm correction

[21:38] <Vaizki> and it may drift a tiny bit.. airspy tcxo is pretty rock solid
[21:38] <amell> It tunes to GSM then works out your offset
[21:39] <Vaizki> yea I've tried it

[21:52] <michal_f> does anyone have python code for crc16_ccitt checksum ?
[21:55] <Vaizki> https://pypi.python.org/pypi/crc16/0.1.1
[21:55] <michal_f> thanks Vaizki, I'll check it
[21:56] <michal_f> I found some implementations but none of thewm worked actualy

[22:02] <Vaizki> michal_f: I think the whole thing is basically this.. https://github.com/gennady/pycrc16/blob/master/python2x/crc16/crc16pure.py
[22:04] <Vaizki> but you don't really need to do it with tables
[22:07] <michal_f> I have a C code for this (from PITS repo) and I can't match it with python code
[22:07] Nick change: Crashbone -> Crashbone|Away
[22:08] <michal_f> every version I try gives different result from C routine (which works OK for habitat)
[22:09] <Vaizki> hmmh
[22:11] <Vaizki> maybe you are starting with seed data of 0 instead of 0xFFFF
[22:12] <Vaizki> PITS code starts with 0xFFFF, the code I linked has default of =0
[22:12] <Vaizki> but why not just reimplement the PITS code in python then
[22:13] <michal_f> good question
[22:13] <michal_f> I'll try that
[22:14] <Vaizki> did you check the seed?
[22:14] Hiena (~boreger@81.93.195.181.datatrans.hu) left irc: Quit: Konversation terminated!
[22:14] <michal_f> but... shouyldn't it give the same output ?
[22:15] criticalmass (uid140789@gateway/web/irccloud.com/x-bnxeczyjilygfzzk) left irc: Quit: Connection closed for inactivity
[22:15] <Vaizki> CRC functions always take the crc and a byte in, then give you back a modified crc that you pass in again with the next byte etc.. so you need to start with some value in that crc variable before you give it the first byte
[22:15] <Vaizki> in the PITS code that values is 0xFFFF
[22:16] <Vaizki> the output of running all bytes through the CRC will be very different if the seed is 0 or 0xFFFF
[22:17] <Vaizki> I assume this is the PITS c code.. https://github.com/PiInTheSky/pits/blob/master/tracker/misc.c#L312
[22:17] <michal_f> yes thats it
[22:18] <Vaizki> oh and please note that the PITS code skips the first 2 input characters

[22:18] <michal_f> I'll try ti recode this in python to get grasp whats going on
[22:18] <Vaizki> which I assume are $$
[22:18] <Vaizki> that might also be your issue
[22:18] <michal_f> I know. thanks :)

[22:21] <michal_f> ok, this was this initial value
[22:21] <michal_f> that fixed it, thakns Vaizki
[22:22] <Vaizki> np, I remember I might have stumbled on that too...
