[16:05] <jcoxon> hey edmoore_
[16:11] <edmoore_> yo
[16:11] <edmoore_> jcoxon: \
[16:12] <jcoxon> hows your sunday going?
[16:12] <edmoore_> i think i've realised why i am so completerly asleep and tired
[16:13] <edmoore_> (just slept 2 hours and still feel knackered)
[16:13] <edmoore_> i'm having about 6 coffees a day at work, and none here
[16:13] <jcoxon> oh?
[16:13] <jcoxon> haha
[16:13] <edmoore_> that'sbeen the case for about 3 weeks now
[16:13] <jcoxon> careful
[16:13] <edmoore_> do you reckon that's plausible?
[16:13] <jcoxon> you're addicted
[16:13] <jcoxon> yup
[16:14] <jcoxon> also you probably aren't as busy on teh weekends
[16:14] <edmoore_> i will have to come off it in the 3 weeks between end of work and start of term
[16:14] <jcoxon> what are you doing between then?
[16:18] RocketBoy (n=grunge@217.47.75.27) joined #highaltitude.
[16:18] <jcoxon> afternoon RocketBoy
[16:19] <jcoxon> (remember to register your nick!
[16:19] <jcoxon> )
[16:19] <RocketBoy> oh yeah
[16:19] <RocketBoy> I'll do that now
[16:20] <RocketBoy> got your packet working OK yet?
[16:20] <jcoxon> yup working very well
[16:20] <jcoxon> all wired up to the gumstix and i've sorted out the scripts to automatically start it up
[16:21] <jcoxon> also started working on the wireless cutdown, have linked the reciever to the cutdown circuit so can trigger the cutdown with the keyfob - just need to sort out power supplies and intergrate the transmitter out of the keyfob
[16:22] <RocketBoy> tops
[16:22] <edmoore_> jcoxon: not sure
[16:23] <edmoore_> would like to do somhing
[16:23] <edmoore_> maybe france
[16:24] <jcoxon> slightly worried about the temperature of the cutdown circuit/reciever during flight
[16:24] <RocketBoy> yeah its goinf to be more exposed than stuff in the main payload
[16:25] <jcoxon> it seems the transmitter is pretty noisy and broadcasts over a large spectrum
[16:25] <jcoxon> so perhaps it won't matter too much if they all drift
[16:27] <RocketBoy> the cheapo FM licence exempt transmitters and recivers are quite wide band so reasonably immune to drift effects
[16:27] <RocketBoy> some recivers are 200KHz wide
[16:28] <jcoxon> well we'll just have to see :-)
[16:28] <jcoxon> i reckon i'm on course for a payload for the 9/10th august
[16:29] <RocketBoy> sounds good - we havn't had a launch for absolute ages :-(
[16:30] <jcoxon> need to get onto doug about the cameras
[16:30] <RocketBoy> looks like someone else has alreday registered RocketBoy :-(
[16:30] <jcoxon> i got a really cheapy 434 10mW radio as well - so might put together a morse beacon just in case
[16:32] <jcoxon> RocketBoy, do you know of a away to get truetty to dump the data its decoding to a file?
[16:33] <RocketBoy> sure - theres an option somewhere
[16:33] <jcoxon> realtime?
[16:33] <RocketBoy> yep think so
[16:34] <jcoxon> hmmm haven't found it yet then
[16:34] <RocketBoy> my version has expired so I can't try it right now
[16:34] <RocketBoy> I think its on the first menu
[16:35] <RocketBoy> (its not in a logical place)
[16:38] <RocketBoy> you can also capture the sound - so that you can try decoding it offline with different parameters
[16:40] <jcoxon> ooo found it - capture file
[16:42] <jcoxon> hmmm it does't put any data in the file till you close it
[16:42] <jcoxon> i'll run it for a bit and see if it does after a while
[16:43] <jcoxon> oooo it does
[16:43] <jcoxon> thats cool
[16:43] <jcoxon> now i can get my mac software to parse it and get the nice data out ofi t
[16:45] <RocketBoy> with packet the data should be error free - so less problem to parse
[16:45] <jcoxon> yeah
[16:45] Action: jcoxon is happy that this is all coming together
[16:46] <jcoxon> probably find the range is rubbish :-p
[16:47] <RocketBoy> well i think its good for at least 30 - 40Km
[16:48] <RocketBoy> if we get a bigger antenna more
[16:48] <jcoxon> well we can boost our coverage with an advanced radio station
[16:48] <jcoxon> we have the equipment to do it
[17:01] <edmoore_> yo
[17:01] <edmoore_> hi RocketBoy
[17:01] Nick change: edmoore_ -> edmoore
[17:01] <RocketBoy> yo edmoore
[17:01] <edmoore> Saw Mike Roberts at RAeS on thurs
[17:02] <edmoore> a pair of shorts in a sea of suits
[17:03] <RocketBoy> oh yeah he said he was doing an exhibition
[17:03] <edmoore> ah ok
[17:04] <RocketBoy> good job he wasn't waring his kilt
[17:04] <edmoore> :)
[17:04] <edmoore> I think we'll be launching soon
[17:04] <RocketBoy> was it at Farnborough
[17:04] <RocketBoy> go show
[17:04] <RocketBoy> go = good
[17:04] <edmoore> oh awesome!
[17:05] <edmoore> I went to get there this year
[17:05] <edmoore> yeah - running 50 baud rtty directly off the arm
[17:05] <edmoore> saves developing a new thing for the time being
[17:05] <RocketBoy> oh yeah i meant to ask how the Mustelidae was
[17:06] <edmoore> I see what ya did there....
[17:06] <edmoore> well v1 should be rtf very soon - next weekend maybe?
[17:07] <RocketBoy> badger is one of the Mustelidae family - along with ferrets, weasels & otters
[17:07] <edmoore> and have started the v2 which so far fixes everything we have found wrong with v1. but will probably hold off on completely the design till after a few flights with v1, and cold cycling and stuff
[17:08] <RocketBoy> yeah thats the way to de-bug - get as many problems out with the previous version
[17:09] <edmoore> I do quite want to add battery management to the new one though. Then it would be a one-bard solution
[17:09] <edmoore> one-board*
[17:10] <edmoore> but it's the eternal balance to pile on features or just slow down and iterate/test a bit more. Ho hum. But yeah - we'll try and fly this one asap
[17:13] <RocketBoy> yeah its a difficult call - just how much to cram on the board
[17:15] <edmoore> We can cram more!
[17:16] <RocketBoy> so what have you gon on the board at the mo
[17:16] <RocketBoy> ?
[17:16] <RocketBoy> gon = got
[17:17] <edmoore> gps, gsm, 3 axes of acceleration, temp, general i/o for cutdowns and whatever, sd logging.
[17:17] <RocketBoy> cool
[17:18] <edmoore> New version will hopefully add battery management and monitoring, a radiometrix with it's own driver avr (which will also talk to the gsm modem) in a noisy area of the board. May add a 2 axis gyro too.
[17:19] <edmoore> and we'll make and pot some pyro firing boards aswell
[17:19] <edmoore> bbiab
[17:19] <RocketBoy> o
[17:20] <jcoxon> RocketBoy, hows HARVe?
[17:22] <edmoore> we'd add gyro to make it capable of running something like HARVe
[17:22] <RocketBoy> actually Ok - i flew a re-riged parafoil on friday - it worked ok but needs adjusting
[17:22] <edmoore> bbiab again
[17:22] <jcoxon> test launch soon?
[17:23] <RocketBoy> I found a good way to launch them - trebuchet
[17:23] <jcoxon> haha, really?
[17:24] <RocketBoy> yeah - the centrifugal action tends to inflate the parafoil
[17:25] <jcoxon> nice
[17:31] <RocketBoy> - i got the idea when watching the model paraglider launches
[17:31] <RocketBoy> bb shortly
[17:31] RocketBoy (n=grunge@217.47.75.27) left irc: "Leaving"
[17:37] <edmoore> jcoxon: yes maybe this weekend
[17:37] <edmoore> depends on how telit behaves - everything else is go
[17:38] <edmoore> bbiab
[17:38] <jcoxon> edmoore, i've got an exam a week on tues :-(
[17:38] <jcoxon> sadly can't really spare a day
[17:39] <jcoxon> not that i'm working right now
[17:44] RocketBoy (n=grunge@217.47.75.27) joined #highaltitude.
[17:46] <edmoore> jcoxon: :(
[17:46] <edmoore> well it won't be that exciting
[17:46] <edmoore> just a first test
[17:46] <jcoxon> i want to come along :-(
[17:46] <jcoxon> i've also got exams 4 and 5th august
[17:46] <edmoore> then it can start to be employed in the several missions we've got lined up
[17:47] <edmoore> lots of rocket bits we can test from high alts
[17:47] <jcoxon> well if it works i'd like to test goliath with badger
[17:47] <edmoore> fo sho
[17:47] <edmoore> we'll make several v1.2 pcbs
[17:47] <edmoore> it's pretty cheap to do anyway
[17:47] <edmoore> so we can make up new ones if necessary
[17:48] <jcoxon> coolio
[17:48] <jcoxon> well we can do a wbcam + packet + thumbnail download launch
[17:48] <edmoore> awesome :)
[17:48] <jcoxon> also an upload
[17:49] <edmoore> that's getting a bit hardcore
[17:49] <jcoxon> i'm ready for that
[17:49] <jcoxon> just need to wire in the radio
[17:49] <jcoxon> (not joking)
[17:49] <edmoore> ok, well that's cool
[17:49] <jcoxon> the radiometrix reciver has an audio out, just attach that to the audio in and wham bam
[17:50] <edmoore> thank you mam
[17:51] <edmoore> so what would you send it?
[17:51] <jcoxon> well it would act like a network link
[17:51] <jcoxon> so we could telnet, ftp etc
[17:52] <jcoxon> might be easier to do uplink before the picture download
[17:52] <Hiena> http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/448565 <=Ez kesz...
[17:52] <Hiena> Ooops, wrong window.
[17:52] <Hiena> Anyhow, it's worth to play.
[18:15] <jcoxon> edmoore, RocketBoy, is it worth me putting together a list of potential "missions"/launches we want to do in the near future?
[18:16] <RocketBoy> sure
[18:16] <RocketBoy> I was thinking atlas for sure
[18:17] <jcoxon> yeah, with what ever flight 'puter we use (or a flight for each)
[18:17] <RocketBoy> just go for a single 1500 balloon
[18:18] <jcoxon> yeah, and as light as possible
[18:18] <RocketBoy> yeah - i have the cam
[18:19] <jcoxon> i know that mc- wants to launch a payload (i think with jatkins)
[18:19] <jcoxon> I've got a few launches in my head for Goliath:
[18:20] <jcoxon> * Test launch
[18:20] <jcoxon> * HAPS with Dougs Cameras
[18:20] <jcoxon> * Uplink
[18:20] <jcoxon> * Picture Downlink
[18:20] <jcoxon> not that a payload has ever managed to be launched for 4 flights :-p
[18:21] <RocketBoy> yeah - well it aint easy as we have found out
[18:26] <jcoxon> how are the balloon stocks?
[18:27] <RocketBoy> yeah still got quite a few - some 800s 1000s and 1200s
[18:28] <RocketBoy> plus some old stock 350s
[18:28] <RocketBoy> I'll order up a couple of 1500s
[18:32] <jcoxon> hmmm i'll wack a page on the wiki, nothing has been added recently
[18:34] <RocketBoy> bbl (tea)
[18:34] <jcoxon> anything else for hte list?
