[07:43] <jcoxon> morning all
[08:21] <edmoore> hi jcoxon
[08:21] <jcoxon> hey edmoore
[08:21] <edmoore> have just started my new term's resolution
[08:21] <edmoore> jog to grantchester and back every morning before breakfast
[08:21] <jcoxon> which is
[08:21] <jcoxon> wow
[08:21] <jcoxon> thats quite far
[08:21] <jcoxon> especially from churchill
[08:22] <edmoore> mmmm... might have to revise it slightly :)
[08:22] <edmoore> maybe cycle to newnham then run
[08:22] <jcoxon> have you done it yet?
[08:22] <edmoore> yes, just got back
[08:22] <jcoxon> good work
[08:22] <jcoxon> i go running every other day
[08:22] <edmoore> just gonna jump in shower, bbiab
[08:23] <jcoxon> np
[08:27] <edmoore> back
[08:28] <jcoxon> so all settled then?
[08:31] akawaka (n=akawaka@cpe-76-173-152-142.socal.res.rr.com) joined #highaltitude.
[08:32] <jcoxon> edmoore, do you think i should fly a cutdown on fhalp-3? as we really want it to get to reasonable altitude
[08:32] <edmoore> just about
[08:32] <edmoore> bit more unpacking today, but only odds and sods
[08:32] <jcoxon> oh i got the gps
[08:32] <edmoore> then start the revision grind
[08:32] <jcoxon> ?22
[08:32] <edmoore> oooh
[08:32] <edmoore> awesome
[08:32] <edmoore> that's a good deal
[08:32] <jcoxon> yeah
[08:32] <jcoxon> especially as i can power it from my lipo
[08:33] <jcoxon> and its 3.3v ttl
[08:33] <edmoore> nice
[08:33] <jcoxon> so yeah to cutdown or not to cutdown
[08:34] <edmoore> atlas?
[08:34] <jcoxon> no fhalp-3
[08:34] <edmoore> or fhalp
[08:34] <edmoore> pff
[08:34] <jcoxon> thats what i thought
[08:34] <jcoxon> i don't trust my coding to make it check a square
[08:34] <jcoxon> :-p
[08:35] <edmoore> lol
[08:35] <edmoore> could just doa radius?
[08:35] <jcoxon> i could do time
[08:36] <jcoxon> its got a secondcounter
[08:36] <jcoxon> so could just record the start up second counter and check if its gone past x amount
[08:36] <jcoxon> if so cutdown
[08:36] <jcoxon> avoid a ridiculously slow climb
[08:37] <edmoore> yeah, good point
[08:37] <edmoore> going to grab some breakfast
[08:37] <edmoore> bbl
[09:07] <jcoxon> right i'm off
[09:07] <jcoxon> cya

[12:22] <jatkins> hi all
[12:23] <Laurenceb> just ordered all the parts for 2*radio boards, 2*Zagi board v2, 2*parafoil :P
[12:23] <Laurenceb> hello
[12:24] <Laurenceb> unfortunately revision calls :(
[12:24] <jatkins> :(
[12:24] <jatkins> ..just doing more gps/arduino rs-232
[12:25] <Laurenceb> do you have the gps talking to the arduino ?
[12:25] <jatkins> yep
[12:25] <jatkins> but it's giving out gibberish
[12:25] <jatkins> I think I know how to fix it, just trying now
[12:25] <jatkins> they give out correct data in hyperterm, just not to the arduino
[12:25] <jatkins> shouldn't be too difficult though
[12:26] <Laurenceb> I see
[12:26] <jatkins> ah, working now
[12:26] <Laurenceb> ah that was easy :P
[12:26] <jatkins> I had a resistor on the rs-232 input
[12:26] <jatkins> lol
[12:26] <jatkins> taken it off now
[12:26] <jatkins> now I can get on with the parser
[12:26] <jatkins> that php stuff I was on about the other day was complete rubbish
[12:26] <jatkins> I'd forgotten than NMEA is fixed-length
[12:27] <Laurenceb> lol
[12:27] <jatkins> mc- reminded me, lol
[12:27] <jatkins> so I was using split(), etc.
[12:27] <jatkins> when I can just do substr()
[12:27] <Laurenceb> yes
[12:27] <jatkins> I've been talking to rocketboy a bit
[12:27] <jatkins> gonna get the balloon, helium, and batteries from him
[12:27] <Laurenceb> have you got a machine with a parallel port?
[12:28] <jatkins> don't think so
[12:28] <jatkins> I've been using a usb -> serial port cable
[12:28] <Laurenceb> I was going to say its really easy to flash some avrs with one
[12:28] <jatkins> I think I have a D15 connector or whatever
[12:28] <jatkins> ok
[12:28] <Laurenceb> if you install avr studio its simplicity itself :D
[12:29] <jatkins> ok, thanks
[12:29] <jatkins> I don't have avr studio - is it free or comes with the microcontroller?
[12:29] Ebola (n=Ebola@unaffiliated/ebola) joined #highaltitude.
[12:29] <Laurenceb> its basically an IDE for GCC, makes it a lot simpler
[12:29] <Laurenceb> its free of the atmel site
[12:29] <jatkins> ok
[12:29] <jatkins> cool
[12:29] <jatkins> gcc is linux c compiler?
[12:29] <Laurenceb> yes
[12:29] <jatkins> ok
[12:30] <Laurenceb> but it runs under XP
[12:30] <jatkins> cool
[12:30] <jatkins> it's gnu?
[12:30] <Laurenceb> GCC is
[12:30] <jatkins> cool
[12:30] <Laurenceb> but avr studio is an atmel freeware app
[12:30] <jatkins> ok
[12:30] <Ebola> "gnu compiler collection"
[12:31] <Laurenceb> it has a habit of hanging at inopportune moments, but its generally not too bad
[12:31] <jatkins> ok
[12:35] <jatkins> sweet - it's working perfectly now! :D
[12:36] <jatkins> it's basically returning the ascii character codes for the nmea strings
[12:36] <jatkins> with "-" in between
[12:36] <jatkins> as the "arduino serial monitor" doesn't return actual ascii, just the codes
[12:37] <jatkins> so to check it's the write nmea data, i've written a php script (back to that rubbish :D) that converts the ascii codes to their character equivilants
[12:38] <jatkins> - just for debugging
[12:38] <jatkins> php code goes nowhere near the arduino code, ;)

[17:20] <Akadecca> whats up?
[17:21] <fnoble> i have a function that takes a character and returns a different character
[17:21] <fnoble> and i want to apply it over a string
