[17:29] <Laurenceb1> hi all
[17:30] Action: Laurenceb1 has fried his temperature sensor yet again
[17:30] <Laurenceb1> this is getting very tedious :(
[17:30] <Laurenceb1> oh well there goes monday
[17:31] <Laurenceb1> I think it better to work on things by yourself sometimes, when your working in a team its easy for people to confuse you
[17:31] <Laurenceb1> hence I got the 9v rail mixed up with the 5v

[17:54] <Hiena> Good evening!
[17:54] <Laurenceb1> hello
[17:55] Action: Laurenceb1 has fried his temperature sensor again
[17:57] <natrium42> how?
[17:57] <natrium42> what kind of sensor is it?
[17:59] <Laurenceb1> IC
[17:59] <Laurenceb1> I connected it to 9v
[18:00] <Laurenceb1> my supervisor is a prat, he confused the supplies then thought it was extremely funny
[18:00] <Laurenceb1> he's not the person who has to repair it :(
[18:03] <Laurenceb1> we managed to do a bit of flow testing, it looks fairly good, about an order of magnitude less aerosol on the second collector downstream of the one being used
[18:04] <Laurenceb1> if we adjust the pump speed with altitude, we can get it to work a bit better
[18:06] <natrium42> cool
[18:07] <Laurenceb1> we think for a 2 instrument a wheel on a stepper motor to rotate new targets into position would work well
[18:07] <Laurenceb1> a mark 2 *
[18:08] <Laurenceb1> but that can be some fun for a phd student :P

[18:10] <Laurenceb1> everyone in the department is crazy, I was having my lunch and the conspiracy theory guy shows up, then my supervisor thinks fried temperature sensors are funny when it was his fault :(
[18:11] <Laurenceb1> they're all mad :(

[18:28] <natrium42> Laurenceb1, it's just like that comic that edmoore posted: http://xkcd.com/231/
[18:29] <Laurenceb1> hmm almost
[18:29] <natrium42> actually, that graph is wrong
[18:30] <natrium42> i should make a better one
[18:30] <Laurenceb1> it was more a case of the guy shaking his fists "they will never NEVER make me have an ID card"
[18:31] <Laurenceb1> and me trying to eat my lunch in peace :S
[18:33] <Laurenceb1> I've got one of Rocketboys radios now, in case mine proves a pain to get working

[19:04] <Laurenceb1> haha too true :P
[19:04] <Laurenceb1> bbl food
[19:04] <natrium42> later

[20:24] <Hiena> Any X window expert here?
[20:25] <akawaka> i know something about it
[20:25] <akawaka> or used to at least
[20:26] <Laurenceb1> what does sscanf return if it doesnt find what its looking for?
[20:27] <akawaka> 0
[20:27] <akawaka> it returns the number of items successfully read
[20:27] <Laurenceb1> oh ok
[20:27] <Laurenceb1> what does it set the variable to?
[20:27] <Hiena> Ok. The question is: Where i could found the description of the Pixmap structure?
[20:28] <Laurenceb1> say your looking for an int
[20:29] <akawaka> Hiena: you mean the xpm file format?
[20:29] <akawaka> laurenceb1: it sets it to the value
[20:29] <akawaka> but you have to give it a pointer
[20:29] <Hiena> Nope. I meand Pixmap datatypes used by the X.
[20:29] <akawaka> int foo; scanf( "%d", &foo );
[20:29] <Laurenceb1> but if there isnt any data?
[20:30] <akawaka> it won't do anything with it
[20:30] <Laurenceb1> right ok
[20:30] <Laurenceb1> I'm using sscanf
[20:30] <Laurenceb1> so you could possible send it junk data
[20:34] <akawaka> Hiena: the pixmap type is just an id
[20:35] <akawaka> probably just an int or something
[20:35] <akawaka> it is a handle to data stored internally by the xserver
[20:36] <Hiena> Ok. How i could access to the pixel values stored by the pixmap?
[20:40] <akawaka> Hiena: XGetImage
[20:42] <akawaka> pass a pixmap as the drawable
[20:42] <akawaka> it'll return an ximage
[20:44] <Hiena> Ok. I'll try it.
[20:44] <Hiena> Thank you very much.
[20:45] <akawaka> no problem
[20:50] <Hiena> Time to sleep.
