[21:49] <LaurenceB> Hi all
[21:50] <LaurenceB> arg my glider wont work :-(
[21:50] <LaurenceB> it wont recover from stalls
[21:53] <LaurenceB> it sort of stalls and then spiral dives. What do you have to do to stop spiral diving?
[22:12] flowolf (n=flowolf@host173-218-dynamic.21-87-r.retail.telecomitalia.it) left irc: Remote closed the connection
[22:19] <LaurenceB> could it be the tail is too short
[22:26] <edwardmoore> spiral dives are got out of by pushing the stick down
[22:26] <edwardmoore> hard down
[22:26] <edwardmoore> but looks like your wing aoa is too steep anyway
[22:29] <LaurenceB> I have no stick!
[22:30] <LaurenceB> should the tail have -ive angle of attack?
[22:31] <LaurenceB> and whats the effect of longer/shorter tail?
[22:35] <LaurenceB> or has the tail got zero angle of attack by definition?
[22:45] <edwardmoore> well the line through the tail and CG is the datum from which you measure AoA
[22:47] <LaurenceB> I see
[22:48] snoopl3s (n=snoopl3s@209.105.206.184) left irc: Remote closed the connection
[22:48] <LaurenceB> in that case the ngle of attack is a bit too high maybe
[22:48] <edwardmoore> not sure what effect tail length has though
[22:48] <LaurenceB> yes, I'm convinced thats the only main change I've made
[22:49] <LaurenceB> its now about 4cm shorter than the origional plane
[22:49] <LaurenceB> code and electronics wise is almost ready to launch
[22:53] rocketboy (n=steve@host81-154-221-113.range81-154.btcentralplus.com) joined #highaltitude.
[22:53] <LaurenceB> so the angle of attack of the tail is zero, and if I change the angle of the tail pole it will change the angle of attack
[22:53] <LaurenceB> Hi there rocketboy
[22:53] <rocketboy> hiya
[22:53] <LaurenceB> sent you an email
[22:53] <rocketboy> yeah - just replied
[22:53] <LaurenceB> this glider is annoying me badly
[22:54] <LaurenceB> http://www.av8n.com/how/htm/aoastab.html is interesting

[22:56] <edwardmoore> hi steve
[22:56] VA3NEE (n=Snoopl3s@209.105.206.184) left irc: Remote closed the connection
[22:56] <rocketboy> hi ed
[22:56] <LaurenceB> rocketboy, could you attatch the antenna directly to the coax?
[22:56] <LaurenceB> that would save tail weight
[22:57] <rocketboy> could do but the connector is very small (probaly less tham 1g
[22:58] <rocketboy> I thought the annena would be in the wing trailing edge?
[22:58] <LaurenceB> hmm but the space under the winds is very narrow
[22:58] <LaurenceB> yep trailing edge
[22:58] <LaurenceB> winds=wings
[22:59] VA3NEE (n=Snoopl3s@209.105.206.184) joined #highaltitude.
[23:02] <rocketboy> humm - I'd have to lop of the plug I spent so much time fiddling to put on the end.
[23:02] <rocketboy> of = off
[23:03] <rocketboy> I'll see if I put a plug on the 2nd system I was making
[23:04] <LaurenceB> oh sorry
[23:04] <LaurenceB> those plugs are a pain
[23:05] <LaurenceB> guess you could have the connector with 3cm or so to the antenna
[23:05] <LaurenceB> http://wiki.ukhas.org.uk/_detail/projects:mihab:imag0048.jpg?id=projects%3Amihab%3Aglider&cache=cache
[23:05] <rocketboy> yeah they are
[23:06] <LaurenceB> you can see on the photo where the antenna has to go
[23:08] <rocketboy> - not sure - is that the hole in the centre - towards the training edge of the cross thinggy
[23:09] <LaurenceB> yes coax has to go through there
[23:11] <LaurenceB> the wings sort of slot in
[23:12] <rocketboy> I'll give it some thought
[23:13] <LaurenceB> If you put 4cm or so of coax onto the antenna with a matching connector
[23:14] <LaurenceB> then we can feed it through the circulat hole then there is a bit of space underneath for the connector
[23:15] <LaurenceB> will increase the lenght of the tail, I would presume the origional designers of the plane got this sussed
[23:17] <LaurenceB> this unstable stalling behaviour does seem to correspond with tail lenght
[23:21] <rocketboy> hay ho - im off to bed
[23:21] <rocketboy> cu tomorrow
