[23:05] <jcoxon> evening all
[23:07] <LaurenceB> hi there
[23:08] <LaurenceB> I got the code to work with timer based time delay :-]
[23:08] <jcoxon> oh excellent
[23:08] <LaurenceB> and I've built a glider
[23:08] <LaurenceB> Will upload photo in a sec
[23:09] <defy> hey guys :)
[23:09] <LaurenceB> hi there
[23:09] <jcoxon> hey defy
[23:10] <LaurenceB> arg the wiki is crashing my prehistoric pc
[23:11] <jcoxon> hehe
[23:11] <defy> btw LaurenceB, was it you who was asking about thermopiles?
[23:12] <defy> and how they work in not so good weather?
[23:12] <LaurenceB> yes
[23:13] <defy> well, mine seem to work great on a nice sunny day, but we had a day of 100% cloud cover and they were pretty much useless
[23:13] <LaurenceB> interesting, but what if they end up pointing at the sun?
[23:15] <LaurenceB> I guess they only have a quite small field of view, so this might not be a big problem
[23:15] <defy> they seemed to work fine on a sunny day, even pointing at the sun
[23:15] <defy> so far, its only been a lot of cloud cover thats made them stop working
[23:15] <LaurenceB> wtf that seems to break the laws of physics !
[23:16] <LaurenceB> they have a filter on the front
[23:16] <LaurenceB> thast only lets through some range of radiation in the far IR
[23:16] <LaurenceB> -that
[23:17] <LaurenceB> but the sun should emit way more radiation than the ground at any long wavelenght due to its overwhelmingly higher temperature
[23:18] <LaurenceB> perhaps this is due to the small angular size of the sun
[23:19] <LaurenceB> about 1 degree or something?
[23:19] <LaurenceB> compared to the ground that can fill all the field of vision
[23:20] <defy> well the unit i have compares the values of two sensors, to give one output
[23:20] <defy> so even if one is pointing at the sun, the other will be pointing at the ground
[23:21] <defy> I'm not entirely sure yet if I'd rely on it to keep a glider stable
[23:22] <LaurenceB> interesting, must be due to the angular size or solid angle to use the correct term
[23:23] <LaurenceB> however my glider is just going to use a rudder I plan anyway
[23:29] <LaurenceB> okay I'm still trying to upload a photo, the upload thing uses up all my RAM
[23:37] <LaurenceB> when you try to upload something it loads all the photos as full res it kills my pc
[23:43] <jcoxon> grrr - gpsd hates this gps
[23:43] <LaurenceB> I'm going to have to shut down IRC in a bit to ressusitate my pc brb
