[09:55] <jcoxon> hehe
[09:55] <jcoxon> look at this:
[09:55] <jcoxon> http://www.lazyboneuk.com/store/pro259.html
[09:55] <jcoxon> now replace the small balloon with a weather balloon :-0
[10:13] <defy> hey james :)
[10:20] <jcoxon> hey defy
[10:20] <jcoxon> hows everything going?
[10:20] <jcoxon> enjoing the summer down south?
[10:21] <defy> not too bad, yea...been flying the glider most of today, but i didn't get very good footage from it...damn cameras are acting up, i dont think they like being outside
[10:21] <jcoxon> oh, strange
[10:21] <jcoxon> is this the camera on the gumstix?
[10:22] <defy> nah
[10:22] <defy> just a normal cmos cam going to a wireless transmitter
[10:22] <jcoxon> oh right
[10:22] <defy> I've got a new serial cam with onboard storage, much nicer camera...i just need to finish writing the driver and it'll go into the glider
[10:23] <jcoxon> excellent - so your nearly there?

[10:23] rocketboy (n=steve@217.47.75.133) left irc: Client Quit
[10:24] <defy> yeah, gettin there...did you see my glider footage? its not very great...todays would have been much better if the cams had worked, heh
[10:24] <jcoxon> no i didn't
[10:24] <jcoxon> must of missed it
[10:25] <jcoxon> i've only really got back
[10:25] <defy> sweet
[10:25] <defy> http://stonedlogic.com/glider
[10:25] <jcoxon> oh dear - i feel a random hack comming on
[10:26] <defy> ??
[10:26] <jcoxon> found these r/c blimps
[10:26] <jcoxon> feel like hacking up a r/c vehicle - a nomad 2
[10:27] <defy> oh yea, i just looked at that...looks like it has great hacking potencial
[10:29] <jcoxon> cool video
[10:30] <defy> I've got everything i need now to do a balloon launch, I'm just apprehensive to launch in nz without something that will try bring it back to me
[10:30] <jcoxon> hmmmm i sort of understand
[10:31] <jcoxon> though of course i have lots of flat land
[10:31] <defy> I'm surounded by water, hehe
[10:31] <jcoxon> oh i've got the water as well
[10:31] <defy> water and mountains
[10:31] <jcoxon> the north sea has now claimed 2 balloon payloads
[10:31] <defy> maybe i could have it cut it's self at like 10,000 feet for a first launch
[10:31] <defy> ick, that sucks
[10:32] <defy> pegasus and nova?
[10:32] <jcoxon> yeah
[10:32] <jcoxon> defy, that would be an idea
[10:32] <jcoxon> wil the first flight be of the glider? or just a basic payload?
[10:33] <defy> basic payload
[10:33] <defy> i dont know if i'd have enough time this summer to try a glider launch, but i'm chomping at the bit to launch _something_, hehe
[10:34] <jcoxon> just go for it
[10:34] <defy> my other option is to cram the least amount of expensive equiptment into a payload, rather than having an onboard computer, just have serial devices plugged into the serial wireless
[10:34] <defy> and just try to keep signal and download pictures for as long as i can before i lose it
[10:34] <jcoxon> hmmmm
[10:34] <jcoxon> that means that you will probably loose it
[10:34] <jcoxon> lose*
[10:35] <defy> yeah
[10:35] <jcoxon> make the cheapest payload you can
[10:35] <jcoxon> but with a flight computer
[10:35] <defy> although if it wasn't very heavy, then landing in the burbs might not be so bad, i could throw a cell phone in there to txt me once landed
[10:35] <jcoxon> thats always a good idea
[10:35] <defy> actually, i think i'll avoid landing in the burbs at all costs, lol
[10:36] <defy> yeah
[10:36] <jcoxon> if you can - put the phone onboard
[10:36] <jcoxon> you'll be suprised where you can get reception
[10:36] <jcoxon> keep an eye on the jetstreams
[10:36] <jcoxon> and launch only when you are happy
[10:36] <jcoxon> how hard is it to get permission?
[10:36] <defy> pretty easy
[10:37] <defy> there are different rules, depending on how heavy it is...but for the weight i'd have...it's pretty easy, 24 hour notice...gotta pick a good location which isn't near any airports etc..
[10:37] <jcoxon> yeah
[10:38] <jcoxon> defy, could you pm your gps location - would like to check possible sites on google earth if thats okay
[10:38] <defy> sure
[10:38] <defy> just a sec

[10:57] <jcoxon> cool - well there you go ;-)
[10:57] <defy> hehe
[10:57] <defy> nz weather is so unpredictable though
[10:57] <defy> although i hear it's much more stable once you get out of auckland..
[10:57] <jcoxon> yeah - your stuck in the southern jetstream band
[10:58] <jcoxon> would be a hell of alot easier if we all live near the equator
[10:58] <defy> hehe
[10:58] <defy> i lived in hawaii for 9 years, but that would probably be worse than nz
[10:58] <defy> although if i owned a boat, payload pickup would be easy, hehe
[10:58] <jcoxon> hehe
[11:01] <jcoxon> right i better be off
[11:01] <jcoxon> bbl
