[17:15] <jcoxon> evening mc-
[17:16] <mc-> evening jcoxon, I thought you were in Africa
[17:16] <jcoxon> not for another 2 weeks
[17:17] <mc-> I've been to Dakar for 1 day.. on a merchant ship
[17:17] <jcoxon> :-D
[17:18] <jcoxon> i'm only going to be in Dakar for about a day
[17:18] <jcoxon> before i fly home
[17:18] <icez> where is Dakar?
[17:18] <jcoxon> Capital of senegal
[17:18] <icez> :|
[17:19] <icez> that's a country?
[17:19] <jcoxon> yup
[17:19] <icez> never heard of :]
[17:19] <mc-> I've got a PCB designed and built that is 2x2cm, that has an 8 pin PIC + regs etc.
[17:19] <jcoxon> west africa, south of mauritania and north of guinea-bissau
[17:19] <jcoxon> mc-, thats small
[17:20] <mc-> it sits on the shield of the GPS..now I need to build some foam.
[17:21] <icez> that PIC must be surface mounted right?
[17:22] <mc-> yes, SM PIC. What frequency is the 433MHz module, looking to see if I have a module.
[17:24] <jcoxon> steve seems to be using 434mhz
[17:24] <mc-> I've got a 434.075MHz module, should be ok.
[17:24] <jcoxon> not exactly sure what the exact freq is
[17:25] <jcoxon> "Data Transmission: 434.040? 434.790 MHz 10 mW erp 25 KHz bandwidth and 433.05 - 434.79 MHz 1mW erp 25Khz bandwidth"
[17:25] <jcoxon> so thats fine
[17:25] <mc-> thanks
[17:27] <mc-> is transmitting a position every 30s ok?
[17:27] <jcoxon> yup
[17:28] <jcoxon> i recommend putting a period of a single tone to allow for the yagi to be correctly directed
[17:28] <mc-> I need to work on the receiver next. Got a small yagi in the garage.
[17:29] <jcoxon> i made some progress on my Peg IV
[17:29] <jcoxon> conencted up the phone to the router - works nicely
[17:29] <mc-> a nokia 5110?
[17:30] <jcoxon> yup
[17:32] <mc-> how's the pwr consumption? still 0.5A?
[17:33] <mc-> are you doing geofencing to detect no-go zones? polygon geofence?
[17:34] <jcoxon> i haven't really looked into power consumption yet
[17:35] <jcoxon> going to take a bit of time to measure it all etc
[17:35] <jcoxon> in regards to cutdown ranges - i've up until this point just used a radius
[17:35] <jcoxon> however if i have enough time i'll implement a polygon system
[17:37] <jcoxon> in regards to pwr - i reckon its possible to reduce that quite a bit
[17:37] <mc-> I've done a simple geofence, based on if lon==yy && lat==xx then cutdown();
[17:38] <jcoxon> will have to have the wireless turned off in flight which will certainly reduce power
[17:38] <mc-> Do you have a list of no-go zones as lats/lons?
[17:38] <jcoxon> and also the lan ports at hte back
[17:38] <jcoxon> no not yet - shouldn't be difficult to make though - google earth would certainly help
[17:39] <mc-> I can help on this, and convert into NMEA positions. Which towns do you use?
[17:40] <jcoxon> well we launch from cambridge
[17:40] <mc-> cambridge, newmarket, bury st.edmunds, ipswich, stanstead, any others?
[17:41] <jcoxon> norwich
[17:41] <jcoxon> peterborough
[17:42] <jcoxon> bedford
[17:42] <jcoxon> letchworth, stevenage and london
[17:42] <jcoxon> guess colchester should also be included
[17:43] <jcoxon> for me at least there is no need for them to be converted into NMEA positions
[17:43] <mc-> I'll email you the co-ordinates, when I get to this
[17:45] <jcoxon> no hurry - it would be useful to have them in a text file perhaps on the wiki so other people can use them and perhaps even add to them
[17:48] <mc-> It's pretty quick on googlemaps
[17:48] <jcoxon> are you doing a single coordinate? and then say have a radius around it
[17:49] <jcoxon> which is the covers the who town/city?
[17:51] <mc-> nearly done, but not done radius
[18:12] <mc-> jcoxon, did you get my email?
[18:12] <mc-> bbl
