[00:00] <jcoxon> got openwrt running and hte gps and data cable arrived today
[00:00] <jcoxon> so its a matter of correctly wiring it up
[00:00] <kc0wys> o ok
[00:00] <kc0wys> what's the talk about routers?
[00:01] <jcoxon> oh i'm using a router as my flight computer for peg IV
[00:02] <jcoxon> (even though i have a gumstix)
[00:02] <jcoxon> its sort of an experiment to make ballooning cheap and more accessible
[00:03] <jcoxon> also i like the fact that i'm using another bit of equipment that isn't meant for this
[00:03] <jcoxon> in a sense gumstixs are cheating
[00:04] <kc0wys> ah ok
[00:04] <kc0wys> is it similar to the slug?
[00:04] <kc0wys> same idea?
[00:04] <jcoxon> yup
[00:04] <jcoxon> though this router did cost me £15
[00:05] <jcoxon> and it has 2 serial ports rather then usb on a slug
[00:07] <kc0wys> o ok
[00:09] <jcoxon> the only issue will be power consumption
[00:09] <jcoxon> but i reckon i can reduce the consumption by turning off the ethernet and also wireless in flight
[00:09] <kc0wys> oh really?
[00:13] <jcoxon> right going to have to go to bed
[00:13] <jcoxon> night kc0wys

[21:35] <mc-> Just worked out why my PIC wasn't working
[21:38] <mc-> because it can't get a GPS fix indoors, and the $GPRMC line wasn't long enough
[21:45] <mc-> Now I can beep out a GPS position on a walkie talkie.
[21:45] <mc-> Rocketboy, is it legal to use a walkie talkie in the air?
