[17:56] <jcoxon> hey all
[17:56] <jcoxon> wow 13 people
[17:58] <phatmonkey> hey james
[17:58] <jcoxon> hey phatmonkey
[17:59] <phatmonkey> hmm, i might try rewriting the glider software at some point
[17:59] <jcoxon> oh
[17:59] <phatmonkey> this method of predicting landing spots that steve has worked out
[17:59] <phatmonkey> i could use that idea to work out airspeed couldn't i
[17:59] <phatmonkey> i can figure out the direction and wind speed (roughly) at certain altitudes
[18:00] <phatmonkey> then use that to calculate an airspeed from the gps ground speed on the way down
[18:00] <phatmonkey> interesting
[18:00] <phatmonkey> i wonder how constant the wind speeds are up there
[18:00] <jcoxon> they'll be pretty constant
[18:00] <jcoxon> especially in your timeframe
[18:00] <phatmonkey> yeah
[18:01] <phatmonkey> i wonder how the radio's going
[18:01] <jcoxon> is he building you one?
[18:01] <phatmonkey> i need to put together an uncontrolled payload too
[18:01] <phatmonkey> nope, haven't got in touch
[18:01] <phatmonkey> i suppose i could email him about it
[18:02] <jcoxon> i'm now working on Peg IV
[18:02] <jcoxon> once i get some stupid solder wick
[18:02] <phatmonkey> hehe
[18:02] <phatmonkey> hokay, if we're going to do a tandem launch
[18:02] <phatmonkey> who goes at the top to take the cutdown?
[18:03] <jcoxon> don't mind
[18:04] <jcoxon> i have a cutdown power circuit built
[18:04] <jcoxon> but no cutdown devices
[18:04] <phatmonkey> ok
[18:04] <phatmonkey> we can put the landing point prediction to the test anyway
[18:05] <jcoxon> you should run the software as well
[18:05] <phatmonkey> a continuous feed of the predicted landing spot on the ground would be lovely
[18:05] <jcoxon> oh wait
[18:05] <jcoxon> i wasn't going to have a radio
[18:05] <phatmonkey> ah, shall i take it then?
[18:05] <phatmonkey> i want radio :D
[18:05] <jcoxon> yeah its probably best
[18:05] <phatmonkey> i don't really trust a beacon and phone
[18:05] <jcoxon> well if one of us has a radio
[18:05] <jcoxon> we'll be fine :-D
[18:05] <phatmonkey> but i think two beacons, two phones and a data radio is enough
[18:05] <phatmonkey> >.>
[18:06] <phatmonkey> i might put on both of my GPSs too
[18:06] <phatmonkey> so we'll have 3 :D
[18:07] <jcoxon> i thought you were having serial port issues?!?
[18:07] <phatmonkey> i'll post to the gumstix mailing seeing if anyone wants or wants to help code a driver which present the robostix serial ports as devices on the gumstix
[18:08] <phatmonkey> ^^^
[18:08] <phatmonkey> that gives me two extra serial ports
[18:08] <jcoxon> i have a spare serial port
[18:08] <phatmonkey> i still need another one
[18:08] <phatmonkey> gps, radio and phone
[18:08] <phatmonkey> but i've only got two
[18:09] <jcoxon> hmmmho
[18:09] <phatmonkey> it's silly they didn't bring out the other two gumstix serial ports on the robostix :/
[18:09] gregj (n=gj@195.225.250.35) left #highaltitude.
[18:10] <jcoxon> well i'll stick a bit of info up later on my plans
[18:10] <jcoxon> i'm going to have a small payload :-D
[18:10] <phatmonkey> nice
[18:11] <jcoxon> will bbl
[18:11] <phatmonkey> alright, cya
