[09:14] <jcoxon> good luck kc0wys
[09:17] <malgar> jcoxon, it's raining.. and my rocket is still on the tree :(
[09:18] <jcoxon> oh dear
[09:19] <jcoxon> launch another one at it :-p
[09:20] <malgar> eheh just thought
[09:21] <malgar> another real solution could be a kite
[09:24] <jcoxon> malgar, i'm confused
[09:24] <jcoxon> kite to get the rocket down?
[09:25] <malgar> yes
[09:27] <malgar> go with the kite over the rocket and let it land on it. Then pull the wire of the kite trying to move the rocket
[09:27] <jcoxon> hmmm i reckon you risk getting the kite tangled
[09:28] <jcoxon> get a weight on a v. long piece of string
[09:28] <jcoxon> then compared to throwing stones
[09:28] <jcoxon> its how we get frisbees down from the tall trees in our garden
[09:29] <malgar> uhm!!!
[09:30] <jcoxon> and sort of swing it around a release it - you'll get a lot more height and also some control
[09:30] <jcoxon> it'll act like a bolas
[09:41] <malgar> this is a great idea!
[09:45] <jcoxon> :-)
[09:58] <jcoxon> just be careful not to hit yourself with it :-p
[10:01] <jcoxon> bye

[20:59] <phatmonkey> AT LAST!
[20:59] <phatmonkey> i thought the whole parachute world was dead, somebody replying
[21:00] <phatmonkey> rocketboy, roughly how much current will the transceiver and modem for the 434mhz radio consume?
[21:00] <phatmonkey> i'll need to work out how many batteries i need i guess
[21:19] <rocketboy> well at the moment I'm working on a solution for transmit only - it will consume about 25mA average
[21:19] <rocketboy> I have a solution for bothway which is about 100mA
[21:20] <phatmonkey> ok
[21:21] <phatmonkey> my power consumption is going to be quite random anyway, what with the servos
[21:21] <phatmonkey> i suppose i'd better allow for a jammed servo, hmm
[21:22] <phatmonkey> that could potentially draw half an amp or so :/
[21:23] <phatmonkey> i suppose if i shut off the servos in the failsafe, it should be ok
[21:43] <rocketboy> I'd be monitoring servo current if jamming is a possibility - and turn them off if they jam

[21:55] <phatmonkey> it's a very remote possibility, but it could happen if a gear breaks or something
[21:55] <phatmonkey> the control linkages and surfaces are very simple, they won't jam
[21:55] <phatmonkey> and it'll all be turned off before landing, so it doesn't matter if the servos rest on anything on the ground

[22:06] <phatmonkey> rocketboy, do you think i should go for li-ion or li-polymer
[22:07] <phatmonkey> well li-ion as in the round cells
[22:07] <phatmonkey> i guess i feel safer with them because they work at lower temperatures and, er, don't blow up so easily
[22:09] <krim_> can i use householding aluminum foil on the radar reflector ?
[22:11] <phatmonkey> don't see why not!
[22:12] <krim_> me neither :p
[22:13] <phatmonkey> http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=461
[22:13] <phatmonkey> 8 of them would give me a 8800 7.4v pack, wow
[22:13] <phatmonkey> only 368g
[22:13] <phatmonkey> i might get more to penetrate wind...
[22:14] <rocketboy> I dn't honest;y think there is much difference between li-po- or li-ion
[22:14] <krim_> wow nice
[22:14] <rocketboy> yeh household aluminium foil is fine - althouh its a bit heavy
[22:15] <rocketboy> metalized plastic (like space blankets) is lighter and a bit more robust
[22:16] <krim_> thanks dude
[22:17] <phatmonkey> 13.2ah at 7.4v, 552g
[22:17] <phatmonkey> that is insane
[22:18] <rocketboy> be careful if you parrallel them up - sounds like a recipe for a fire
[22:18] <phatmonkey> as long as they're balanced, it's fine
[22:19] <phatmonkey> all my lipo model plane packs are in parallel
[22:19] <phatmonkey> only £43 too, nice
[22:20] <rocketboy> humm - id be using shotkey power diodes to protect one stack trying to charge another
[22:20] <phatmonkey> probably a good idea i suppose
[22:21] <rocketboy> overcharge those li-ion/li-po and ka-blam
[22:22] <phatmonkey> yep
[22:23] <phatmonkey> i think i'll order three sets of 4 then
[22:37] <phatmonkey> hmm, i wonder if they have tabs
[22:37] <phatmonkey> one picture does, the other doesn't
