[17:29] <Kyb|afk> heya.
[17:29] Nick change: Kyb|afk -> Kybernetos
[17:30] <malgar> hi
[17:31] <Kybernetos> how's life malgar? =)
[17:31] <malgar> heh a busy life
[17:32] <Kybernetos> schoolwork?
[17:33] <malgar> somathing like it.. university exams
[17:33] <Kybernetos> oki.
[17:33] <Kybernetos> what kind of courses?
[17:36] <malgar> environmental-hydraulics engineering.. at the moment i'm preparing the fluid dynamics exam
[17:37] <malgar> you? what do you do in your file?
[17:37] <malgar> life
[17:46] <Kybernetos> hydralics? cool stuff... =)
[17:47] <Kybernetos> I'm currently having a 3 month vacation, after I quit my job and moved to Stockholm.
[17:48] <jcoxon> hey all
[17:48] <Kybernetos> jcoxon =)
[17:50] <jcoxon> been thinking more about your idea
[17:50] <jcoxon> really like it - seriously cool potential
[17:50] <Kybernetos> =)
[17:50] <Kybernetos> thanks
[17:51] <Kybernetos> any more specific thoughts?
[17:51] <jcoxon> well i know that you are thinking of having it in the 6000 - 8000ft altitude range
[17:51] <Kybernetos> yeah?
[17:51] <Kybernetos> do you think it's too low? =)
[17:51] <jcoxon> but the problem is that its the sort of aerospace that is controlled
[17:52] <Kybernetos> true
[17:52] <jcoxon> but you want to keep it low so that it doesn't go horribly wrong
[17:52] <Kybernetos> it should be within VFR vectors though...
[17:52] <Kybernetos> true
[17:53] <jcoxon> was thinking how cool it would be to get it above 60,000ft
[17:53] <jcoxon> (lift it with another balloon
[17:53] <jcoxon> )
[17:54] <jcoxon> massive drop in wind, if contact could be maintained it could open up a whole new volume of the atmosphere
[17:54] phatmonkey (n=phatmonk@65.98.2.81.in-addr.arpa) joined #highaltitude.
[17:55] <Kybernetos> plus it could go longer before it crashed... aren't the jet stream winds at that altitude?
[17:56] <Kybernetos> but when i did my initial research, i somehow got the idea that higher altitudes are less favourable if you want it to stay up for awhile?
[17:59] <jcoxon> no the jet stream is below that altitude
[18:00] <jcoxon> there is the problem of communication
[18:00] <jcoxon> s
[18:00] <jcoxon> and the temperature
[18:00] <jcoxon> and the change in pressure - as in the balloon you are going to use will have expanded massively
[18:01] <Kybernetos> yeah, plus you probably need a bigger balloon and more helium
[18:01] <jcoxon> perhaps something for MKII
[18:01] <Kybernetos> i've looked up satphones... they cost a small friggin fortune, but if i'm forced to get one of those anyway, that altitude shouldn't be a problem.
[18:02] <jcoxon> oh i wouldn't go there - much easier with ham radio surely
[18:02] <jcoxon> if i had a little more time (and money) i would put together a mini glider with gps and phone and release it at 100,000ft see where it went! :D
[18:07] <Kybernetos> but isn't the ham coverage quite limited?
[18:08] <Kybernetos> i gotta get going now... party time.
[18:08] <Kybernetos> =)
[18:08] <jcoxon> will talk soon about it
[18:08] <Kybernetos> have a good night all!
[18:08] <Kybernetos> absolutely. =)
[18:08] <Kybernetos> ciao
[18:08] <jcoxon> night Kybernetos

[18:15] <malgar> jcoxon, i haven't got any reply from italian aviation authority.. but 2-3 hot air ballons associations told me that they dont'd know the laws about but they think that isn't easy like it seems
[18:15] <jcoxon> there will be laws - meteorlogical balloons will be launched daily
[18:16] <jcoxon> for weather forcasting
[18:20] <malgar> yes but thay said that meteorological ballons are launched by few airports with a permanent and special authorization.. (anyway untill i get an answer from the official authority i don't pay much attention to what non-official people say :))
[18:49] <jcoxon> :D
