[18:08] Good evening [18:09] Got a question/need some ideas or tips on Pi in the sky [18:09] Here is my Pi Zero dauther board https://imgur.com/a/0BeKBQh that fits the LoRa radio and the GPS chip [18:12] If I power up just the daugher board, GPS works fine. If I power up Pi + daugher board thru the USB connector on the Pi Zero, the GPS takes forever to get a lock (even when the PITS tracker+camera scripts are killed on the Pi). Tested with monopone, sleeve dipole, ground plane, SMD chip antenna and even with a hijacked GPS RF frontend from one, now [18:12] dead, RS41. [18:13] sounds to me like something on the PI is emitting QRM on the GPS freq [18:14] Anyone got any ideas? To me it looks like conducted or radiated noise from the Pi but not sure about how to mitigate the effects. [18:19] Brian, that's what I am thinking but having a hard time figuring out where to start. And if is conducted thru the traces or radiated to the antenna. [18:20] got some longer cables so you can move the boards more apart? [18:20] or put the pi in a metal box and the gps outside of the box [18:21] cookiecan [18:21] or samething [18:21] something [18:26] Not an option for this payload https://imgur.com/a/vA1Y1q4 [18:32] Any ideas from the PITS team? daveake or Upu? [18:38] snaked (~snaked@pdpc/supporter/active/snaked) joined #highaltitude. [18:43] dude12312414 (~test@gateway/tor-sasl/dude12312414) joined #highaltitude. [18:44] known problem the pi cam jams the gps [18:45] lets see what Davake says about it [18:48] get the antenna away from the pi [18:50] or use something active/filtered [18:50] https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/S73BCnvk/IMG_3138.jpg [18:51] Upu, holy cow, that looks nice [18:51] Got a part number on that antenna? [18:52] thanks thats the new Pi In the Sky/Habudino/PITSZero replacement [18:52] sure [18:52] TAOGLAS.AP.10X.01 [18:52] AP.10H.01 [18:53] APRS on top https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/GxIzgYNg/IMG_3144.JPG [18:56] How it behaves in that configuration with the camera on? [18:57] well the board has its own AVR on board [18:57] interfaces with the Pi for camera [18:58] but if you mean does it get a lock [18:58] then yes [18:59] So you're not using the CSI ? Or I understand wrong [19:00] you'd have to ask Dave [19:00] but basically the pi sents the avr image date [19:00] the avr transmits it [19:00] mainly so if the Pi crashes the avr carries on [19:02] What about the CAM M8? Is that an option to try for me? [19:05] yeah it performs well. Simple fix for you is stick the GPS antenna on the end of 10 cms of coax [19:05] and get it away from the Pi [19:07] Should I try a monopole at the end of some coax? All my flights so far used monopoles, including 4 floaters, all with M8C from you. One of them flew 116 days. [19:09] yeah that would work [19:09] just get it away from the noisy Pi :) [19:09] heck just solder coax and strip the last 5-6mm off [19:10] or whatever the 1/4 wave is @ 1.542Ghz [19:10] 47 mm :-) [19:10] honestly Ublox will get a lock if you attach a wet beer mat [19:10] yeah that [19:10] tried that, in the dimensions of a sleeve dipole, did not perform significantly better [19:15] did you put a snaon ferite on the end of the coax where the sleve ends? [19:15] *snapon [19:16] Nope, no weight budget for that, Mike :) [19:16] its a pisky, a small ferite cant hur :) [19:16] t [19:17] no floater I asume :) [19:17] Thanks guys, will try a monopole on some coax tomorrow, will report the conclusions [19:18] http://qrp-labs.com/flights/u4b6.html#gallery692980286f-4 [19:18] tryed this as well? [19:18] Nope, no floater, its the 3d printed payload box, just received permission for a 13-21 june launch, started testing the payload then bummer, its so lazy to get a lock, initially I thought it was in quarantine, too, as the rest of us [19:19] :) [19:19] Good night!
